Absolute Legend: Leeds fans love that Bielsa paid club fines

[ad_pod ]Leeds United fans on Twitter have been blown away once again, as Marcelo Bielsa revealed that he paid the fine administered to the Whites after their altercation with Aston Villa last Monday.

The Argentine manager on FridayÂstated in his press conference that he paid the fine “because it is my responsibility.â€

The incident occurred when Mateusz Klich scored the opening goal despite Jonathan Kodjia nursing an injury which caused the Villa team to stop playing.

In the same press conference, he indicated that he had paid the £200,000 fine that the club were administered due to the Spygate scandal.

Bielsa has often gone into his own pocket to help his teams. He reportedly put up $2.5 million to help Newell’s Old Boys build a new training complex.

These acts have seen Leeds fans worshipping their manager with one supporter even claiming that the club should build a statue for the Argentine.

Here’s what Leeds fans have been saying on Twitter…

Please no: Tottenham fans tell club to forget summer move for Malcom

[ad_pod ]

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans are desperate for their team to avoid a move for Barcelona attacker Malcom in this summer’s transfer window.

Spanish publication Sport have claimed that Borussia Dortmund want to sign Malcom ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign.

However, the same report has said that Tottenham’s interest ‘is known’.

The 22-year-old arrived at Barcelona last summer off the back of a 12-goal season with Bordeaux.

It would be fair to say that the winger has struggled to make his mark at Camp Nou, though, scoring just once in 15 La Liga appearances.

Malcom has been handed the chance to impress in recent weeks with Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez both on the sidelines.

However, the Brazilian has found it really difficult to contribute.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham make a move, but it seems that the majority of the English club’s fans do not want the attacker.

‘Gutted’ – Tottenham fans fume over Vincent Janssen ineligibility

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left gutted by the news that Vincent Janssen is ineligible for the club’s Champions League semi-final against Ajax.

Janssen, of course, enjoyed an excellent scoring record when in the Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar, prior to his move to White Hart Lane.

He scored 32 goals in 49 outings for the club prior to a £17million transfer to Spurs, which has not quite gone as he would have hoped.

Prior to two substitute appearances, against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United, Janssen last played for the club in 2017, when he made a minute-long cameo in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

But fans have been disappointed by the news that he will not be able to play against the Eredivisie giants this week, such is his experience of playing against such sides.

Fernando Llorente is instead poised to lead the line, with Harry Kane injured and Son Heung-Min suspended for the first leg.

Take a look at the best of the reaction to the 24-year-old’s absence below!

Pundit View: Commons’ dig at Edouard highlights larger issues at Celtic

[ad_pod ]

Former Celtic star Kris Commons has delivered a damning verdict on Odsonne Edouard, but his comments are really an indictment of the quality around the Frenchman.

What’s the word?

Edouard is Celtic’s top scorer this season, racking up 20 goals in all competitions, with 14 of those coming in the Premiership.

While Alfredo Morelos has smashed that tally out of the park over at Ibrox, Edouard is the one who will likely end the season with three medals around his neck, and is no doubt one of the best prospects in Britain at the moment.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Commons however, who starred in 227 Celtic games, scoring 89 times and adding 72 assists, said this about the striker on Sky Sports News (29/04/19): “I think the form of Edouard has been hot and cold. When he is good, he is really good. When he is not, he is a bit of a passenger.”

Verdict

It’s quite hard to disagree with Commons’ verdict really, as there have undoubtedly been games this season in which Edouard has been totally anonymous.

However, a striker can only do so much when the team is not performing, and the games he goes missing in are usually the ones in which the passing is sluggish and negative all the way through the team.

As the 21 year-old learns and develops he will have more of an impact outside of scoring goals, but the onus is on the Bhoys to put quality around the young striker, and feed him the ball in dangerous areas whenever possible.

In short, Commons has got it spot on, but his comments reflect much larger issues in the squad that must be addressed this summer, like the need for a playmaker who can stay fit more often than Tom Rogic.

Garth Crooks says Ruben Loftus-Cheek should have stayed at Crystal Palace

[ad_pod ]

Chelsea put a Watford side who have impressed thoroughly to the sword on Sunday, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek scoring the Blues opener – his eighth strike of the term in all competitions.

The midfielder seems to impress whenever Maurizio Sarri gives him the nod, which isn’t often, so it remains bemusing as to why the dynamic number 12 isn’t one of the first names on the team sheet.

However, he was certainly at the forefront of former boss Roy Hodgson’s mind while he was at Crystal Palace last year and BBC pundit Garth Crooks has stated in his weekly feature that thinks it was a big mistake for Loftus-Cheek not to remain at Selhurst Park:

“This is a lad I thought was better off staying at Crystal Palace on loan, playing every week and continuing his international development as a consequence of playing regularly. However the player decided to return to Chelsea – or more to the point, the club insisted he returned.

“Immediately his game time dropped, he lost all the momentum he gained from his time at Palace and he struggled to be the star his performances suggest he might be.”

There’s some exciting changes happening at Crystal Palace next summer. Find out what in the video below…

The 23-year-old was a huge hit at SE25 and a number of the Palace faithful were surely keen for him to stay beyond the expiry of his one-year loan deal, although the Blues were having none of it.

Clearly, the powerful midfielder has all the qualities to play for a top side but perhaps staying at Palace, where he would be a star and perhaps further his international career, would have been a better move than remaining at Chelsea and trying to fight for a future.

Wilfried Zaha has proved that you don’t need to be at a Manchester United or a Chelsea to earn recognition for your talents and the Ivorian is adored by everyone at Selhurst Park. Will Loftus-Cheek realise his mistake and make a beeline for the Eagles, or another club, in the summer? Let us know in the comments below, Palace fans, if you would be happy to see the Londoner back in red and blue.

Could save Villa a lot of money: AVFC supporters offer their views on Henri Lansbury

[ad_pod ]

Henri Lansbury might well have given Aston Villa boss Dean Smith a dilemma ahead of the club’s Championship playoff semi-final first leg against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The midfielder has only just returned to the fold following a period on the sidelines through injury.

However, the 6 ft ace played 80 minutes of the 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich City on Sunday afternoon and will be like a new signing for the club at this stage of the season.

Lansbury has made just three Championship appearances this term, but could yet reach six for the campaign if Villa make the playoff final.

According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old had a pass success rate of 88% against the Canaries, who secured the league title at Villa Park.

Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Pl>ymaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…

Lansbury is certainly an interesting option for Villa in the playoffs, and a number of the club’s fans have been debating how involved he could be in the battle for promotion and indeed heading into next season.

Leeds United: Bielsa must consider summer swoop for Dwight Gayle

It has been a roller-coaster of a year to be a Leeds United supporter, hasn’t it?

After spending the majority of the 2018/19 campaign fighting it out with the likes of Norwich City and Sheffield United for automatic promotion to the Premier League, the Whites were consigned to the lottery of the play-offs after suffering a dismal run of four games without a victory in the second tier.

However, after beating Derby County 1-0 at Pride Park on May 11th, the Yorkshire-based outfit would have been extremely confident of reaching the final of the competition with the second leg being played at Elland Road.

Yet in what turned out to be a harrowing night last Wednesday, Leeds capitulated under the weight of expectations as a brace from Jack Marriott combined with goals by Mason Mount and Harry Wilson helped secure a famous 4-2 victory for the Rams.

With Patrick Bamford once again failing to step up to the mark for the Whites, it is clear that if they want to bounce back next season, they must sign a sufficient replacement for the misfiring forward this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider about his former club’s issues up-front, Danny Mills revealed a possible target by admitting that: “Leeds need a striker who can score 20-plus goals.

You think of someone like Dwight Gayle, who is far more prolific, and he could make all the difference.

“He’s available as he’s finished his (West Brom) loan and going back to Newcastle, where [Rafael] Benitez doesn’t really fancy him.”

If Gayle is indeed made available when the transfer window opens in July, Marcelo Bielsa should not even hesitate about the prospect of splashing the cash on the £10.8m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt).

A deadly finisher, the 29-year-old has reached double figures in all three of his previous campaigns in the second tier with his 24 goals last season helping West Bromwich Albion reach the play-offs.

With Gayle not expected to be part of Newcastle United’s long-terms plans at St James’ Park, Leeds may never have a better chance of signing a player who has an excellent track-record at Championship level.

Undoubtedly an upgrade on Bamford, the former Crystal Palace forward has all the ingredients needed to become a hero at Elland Road over the coming years and could prove to be the key to promotion next season.

What do you think Leeds fans? Should Bielsa consider a summer swoop for Gayle? Could the Newcastle forward lead you to success next year? Let us know below.

Transfer Focus: Leeds fans shouldn’t be surprised by Pearce departure

[ad_pod ]

A Yorkshire Evening Post article written by Phil Hay has confirmed that Leeds United are willing to listen to offers for Tom Pearce.

Pearce spent the second half of last season out on loan at Scunthorpe who were eventually relegated from League One.

Supporters took to Twitter to share their surprise about Pearce’s imminent departure as many fans rated his ability at left-back.

Surprised

On social media a lot of fans were shocked that Pearce would be leaving the club this summer.

The Englishman did look like he was going to be the understudy at full-back following the 2017/18 season, but Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival has seen him have limited first-team chances.

The fact that he is just 21 years of age had many fans believing that he would get his chance in the future, but it looks like his Elland Road career is over.

Shouldn’t be a shock

It’s baffling that so many Whites fans didn’t see this one coming. Pearce didn’t even impress whilst on loan at a struggling Scunthorpe.

He made just nine appearances for the Iron before they were relegated to League Two.

With the abundance of left-backs Leeds have at their disposal it really should have been clear that Pearce would be on his way this summer.

There is an argument to be made that he would be the fifth choice in that position if he returned to the Yorkshire club – behind Ezgjan Alioski, Barry Douglas, Stuart Dallas and Leif Davis.

Of course, he may turn out to be a good player one day, but surely this was one of the most obvious departures from Elland Road this summer.

Come on, Ed! Man United fans fume at Man City’s transfer activity

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter in furious fashion after it was revealed that rivals Manchester City are closing in on a move to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese international was believed to be a target for the Red Devils, but it now appears that they have been beaten to the punch by their city rivals in a deal worth a reported £47m.

Who would win out of Man Utd’s treble winners and Man City today? Fans discuss in the video below…

Fernandes has enjoyed a truly phenomenal season for the Portuguese giants this term. The 24-year-old has scored a staggering 31 goals from midfield – breaking the European record of goals scored by a midfielder previously held by Frank Lampard with 27 – whilst he also has a crazy 17 assists.

It seems greedy of the reigning Premier League champions to add Fernandes to their ranks, considering the fact they already have the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez.

However, this kind of signing is how the big clubs maintain their success.

Due to the fact that they are definitely more in need of a player such as Fernandes, and the fact that they seem to have lost out to a major rival, United fans on Twitter are not happy with the club’s lack of foresight in the market.

Here’s what they’ve had to say in response to the latest report:
