Mane urges Timo Werner to join Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has revealed he’d be more than happy to welcome Timo Werner to Anfield this summer.

What’s the story?

Well, Liverpool have been linked with Werner constantly due to his pace, movement and versatility, all of which make him a perfect Jurgen Klopp player.

The 22 year-old could be a replacement for Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, both of whom are expected to leave this summer.

Now, Mane has spoken out about his desire for the club to bring Werner to Liverpool.

As quoted by ESPN, he told Sport Bild: “I’d advise him to join Liverpool. I like his style of play. Very forceful, good finish, always giving it 100 per cent. If he wants to join us, we’d welcome him to our team.”

Mane went on to say that the young striker had stood out when he watched RB Leipzig last season, echoing the sentiments of Werner’s former teammate Naby Keita, who also thinks Werner should swap Leipzig for Merseyside, per the ESPN report.

Roberto Firmino has thrown a party themed around the colour of his teeth! Watch the video below to find out what we’re talking about…

Would he be a good fit?

This transfer is almost too obvious in terms of the connections between the clubs and the Reds’ need for another centre forward.

With Sturridge and Origi both set to follow Dominic Solanke out the Anfield exit door, Klopp will have to invest up front to improve his squad depth, and Werner’s ability to play on the wings or through the middle kills two birds with one stone.

Then there is the fact that Keita and Werner are good friends, Mane is chipping in to lure the striker to Anfield, and on top of all that he has just one year left on his contract after this season ends.

The 22 year-old has struck an incredible 55 goals and 20 assists in 101 games for RB Leipzig, and also has nine goals in 23 Germany caps.

Agents Mane and Keita are on the case, and this one looks like another genius Liverpool transfer in the offing.

وأتمت: “هذه الصفقة قد تسهل من انتقال ممفيس ديباي، نجم ليون، إلى برشلونة بعدما ارتبط بالبارسا خلال الأيام الماضية”.

Jan Bednarek has disappointed for once under Ralph Hasenhuttl

[ad_pod ]

Southampton’s performance in their defeat to Manchester United was by far their best since Ralph Hasenhuttl took the wheel and they can feel aggrieved that they didn’t take more away from Old Trafford. One man, though, should feel particularly disappointed that he was unable to muster the kind of display that he has consistently produced in recent weeks.

On the chalkboard

Two pieces of individual brilliance had meant the Saints were level with their hosts with less than 10 minutes of regulation time to go, however Romelu Lukaku saved the day for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, thus breaking Southampton hearts.

For all their hard work in defence in the first half, the Saints sat off in the second and allowed United to dictate the tempo of the clash a little more after they were caught with their holding midfielders far too high up the pitch – Andreas Pereira drove into space and found the top corner superbly.

While the defence could not really do a whole lot about the three goals they conceded, the stats behind Jan Bednarek’s display are concerning and should surprise Hasenhuttl, who has rejuvenated the young Pole.

Bad day for Bednarek

The former Lech Poznan defender, having hardly had a look in under Mark Hughes, has been a revelation since Hasenhuttl took over and has surely become their best centre-back.

While others put in some of their best showings of the campaign to date, Bednarek’s was statistically his worst – the 22-year-old completed just 46% of his passes, 2 tackles and 1 interception.

Against one of the most form teams in the league, you have to be able to rely on your players to string a pass together and not lose possession in dangerous areas – Bednarek only hit the target with seven of his attempted balls.

Despite the huge improvements the defender has shown under new management, Hasenhuttl needs to have a word with Bednarek ahead of the Spurs clash this weekend; once again, this will be a game where mistakes are likely to be punished and the hosts are running out of time to secure Premier League survival.

A point or all three against Mauricio Pochettino’s men would be huge but every man in red and white will have to be near faultless.

Phil McNulty delivers glowing verdict on Son Heung-min’s performance vs Dortmund

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur dismantled Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Wednesday evening in a fixture which will live long in the memory of the stunned supporters.

What’s the word?

Even in the absence of club talisman and chief goal scoring machine Harry Kane, Mauricio Pochettino’s side delivered a European masterclass against the Bundesliga league leaders.

With Son Heung-min continuing to operate in a more central role in attack, Spurs were clinical and decisive at the key moments.

It was a team performance which has been brewing beneath the surface for some time, but individually Son was completely exceptional.

Harry Kane who? The South Korea international’s reputation has rapidly been snowballing this season, with murmurs of potential candidacy for the player of the year award beginning to slip into the British media.

Those claims have certainly been enhanced by his latest showing, and the glowing verdict on his performance delivered by BBC Sport journalist, Phil McNulty, suggests he now sits within an elite bracket alongside some of Europe’s best, per BBC.

‘And in Son, Spurs have a remarkably consistent attacking operator of the highest class, tireless, dangerous, intelligent and never frightened of running the hard yards.

‘Son has also made Borussia Dortmund his personal playthings. He scored five in five games against them when he was with Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and now has four in five games for Spurs in Europe. They must be sick of the sight of the South Korean.

‘He is the man keeping Spurs going in an attacking context in the absence of their big hitter and with Kane now on the brink of a return after his latest ankle problems, Son’s contribution cannot be praised highly enough.’

Striker conundrum solved once and for all?

The feeling around Spurs when Kane suffered his injury was one of complete dejection and panic. How would Spurs cope in his absence? Calls for Daniel Levy to get his chequebook out and sign a new attacker were rife but the notoriously transfer-shy club stayed true to form.

Everyone knew that Son was capable of filling in at centre-forward but his temporary absence due to international duty deprived Pochettino of a solid option.

But even then it seemed that the former Bayer Leverkusen man was not considered a long-term answer. His performances in recent weeks, though, have surely changed that perception for good.

Son is just as effective if not more so when deployed through the middle, and his clinical finish to open the scoring showcased the type of composure and lethal instinct which is reserved for the very best strikers in world football.

As McNulty has summed up perfectly ‘he is remarkably consistent attacking operator of the highest class’, so why bother signing a new centre-forward when Pochettino has two of the very best at his disposal?

Cardiff fans lavish praise on defender Sol Bamba

Cardiff City earned a vital win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Bluebirds beat AFC Bournemouth last time out and climbed out of the relegation zone after a supremely important victory at St Mary’s Stadium.

Sol Bamba, the club captain, opened the scoring from a corner, only for Jack Stephens to peg Neil Warnock’s men back in the 91st minute.

The resilient Cardiff, however, would not be denied and a 93rd-minute strike from Kenneth Zohore ensured they took all three points.

The Wales-based club are now one point clear of the bottom three, with the beaten Saints replacing them at 18th.

Newcastle United, who face Wolves on Monday, are 17th and sit level on points with the Saints, though they have a marginally superior goal difference.

And Cardiff fans have hailed the heroics of Bamba, who celebrated with supporters after setting the tone for a victory that could prove season-defining come the end of May.

Leeds fans heap praise on Pablo Hernandez’s creativity

[ad_pod ]Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to their win against Bolton, and they’re almost running out of superlatives for Pablo Hernandez after he created a whopping ten chances.Hernandez has long been a fan favourite at Elland Road, and the Spaniard’s name will surely go down as one of the club greats if he drives his team to promotion this season.Set to turn 34 in April, the fan favourite is showing no signs of slowing down, as he has already racked up seven goals and 11 assists in the Championship this season.Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Pl>ymaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…While he didn’t add to either of those tallies on Saturday, he did create ten chances, a truly ridiculous number, proven by the fact that Bolton as a team only created six.The winger was absolutely phenomenal as he worked to break down a deep and organised Bolton back line, and the Whites were able to pick up all three points thanks to a Patrick Bamford penalty and a rather lucky strike from Gjanni Alioski.Hernandez was undoubtedly the standout man though, and fans are stunned by his qualities once again. Potential Consequences of Manchester United signing Che Adams

[ad_pod ]

According to The Mirror, Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the race for Birmingham’s Che Adams as the striker’s impressive goal-scoring run puts him on the radar of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals in the six games prior to his side’s 1-0 loss to Bolton last weekend and – had he found the net in that game, he would have levelled with club legend Trevor Francis. Regardless, the former Sheffield United hitman can now add both the Red Devils and Gunners to his list of admirers.

Based on current form, the former seems a far more attractive destination for Adams, but what would be the potential consequences of a move to Old Trafford for the Leicester-born forward?

Time ticks for Romelu Lukaku

One of the biggest changes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made since he took the wheel in December is restoring Marcus Rashford to his comfort zone at centre-forward although, in the Norwegian manager’s preferred 4-3-3, it is now difficult to accommodate Romelu Lukaku.

Rashford has found success in 2019 making runs in behind and using his pace to terrify opposition defences – this speed is an attribute he shares with Adams and so it seems that Solskjaer has a clear preference for the type of player he wants to lead his forward line.

While he has been rejuvenated under new management, 25-year-old Lukaku may find he is slowly ushered out the door in the summer – particularly if Adams completes a move to Old Trafford – as he would, therefore, clearly be the wrong kind of striker that Solskjaer wants in his system. That is, if the interim boss stays in charge beyond the end of the season.

Spend big to fix defence

One assumes that whatever the Blues demand in exchange for their star striker would hardly be a dent in the United bank – The Times claim he was valued at a modest £22million in January – and so they can add depth up front at little cost while saving their funds for areas in much greater need of heavier expenditure.

Jose Mourinho identified the heart of defence as a weak point in the Red Devils squad and, while it has looked considerably less leaky under Solskjaer, there still remains the lack of a top quality centre-back.

Meanwhile, full-backs Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are also into their twilight years – minimising their outlay on attacking reinforcements would surely mean 90% of the transfer budget can be dedicated to revamping the back four.

England call-up

The reality, if you’re a young and upcoming Englishman, is that you pretty much have to be playing first team football in the Premier League to qualify for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions considerations and, without wanting to offend Birmingham fans, there is currently next to zero chance of Adams working his way into the squad.

Which “global superstar” has just been named Man Utd’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video above…

With Jamie Vardy’s recent retirement from international football, England are somewhat lacking a tenacious, speedy striker to deputise up front and a move to Manchester United is about as high profile as it gets for a young player; perhaps, if he is given the game-time at Old Trafford, Adams can fire his way into the Euro 2020 squad.

Everton made January ‘approach’ for Diego Llorente

Everton are thought to be one of the Premier League clubs to have taken an interest in Diego Llorente throughout the current season.

The 25-year-old has been impressive with his performances for Real Sociedad for much of the campaign, earning himself a call up to the Spanish national side towards the end of 2018.

A former Real Madrid player, the centre-back has struggled at times with injuries but has shown that he is capable of being one of the Basque outfit’s best players when in the team.

And, according to a report by Diario Vasco journalist Jon Trueba, via Sport Witness, it appears Everton have also been impressed and looked to sign him in January.

It is claimed The Toffees made an ‘approach’ to the player’s agent, Juanma Lopez, who had then passed a message onto Real Sociedad about the interest.

However, they also note that nothing had come of it and as such remains in the north of Spain.

The Verdict:

The defensive areas, especially at set plays, have been a real concern for Marco Silva and his Everton side this season.

And, bringing a player of Llorente’s ability to Goodison Park may have been the ideal solution in helping them fix that problem.

Whether Everton look to reignite their interest in the summer remains to be seen, however, if the Spain international continues to perform as well as he can, a move for the 25-year-old could be likely.

Everton fans – thoughts?
