Lionesses legend pulls apart Mary Earps' 'baffling' comments on Hannah Hampton & accuses ex-England goalkeeper of 'disrespecting' Sarina Wiegman

England's record cap holder, Fara Williams, has weighed in with her opinion on Mary Earps, after the former Lionesses No.1 made comments claiming successor Hannah Hampton was rewarded for "bad behaviour" when Sarina Wiegman restored her to the squad. The former midfielder accused Earps, who retired just before Euro 2025, of lacking respect towards her team-mate and manager.

Williams: Earps should have provided detail

Recalling being asked to write a book of her own, Williams explained in a column for that Earps must have known that the comments made about Hampton would have generated headlines, but the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has hit out at the situation.

Williams called on Earps to be more specific if she was going to bring up Hampton at all: "If Mary is going to be open and honest about the situation, she needs to go into more detail about the supposed bad behaviour rather than leave it up in the air.

"I personally don't know if there was bad behaviour from Hannah, but even if that was the case, she served her punishment after being left out of the squad. If you look at Hannah's career from that moment onwards, I feel she has shown great growth, reflection and development to bounce back."

AdvertisementGetty Images Sport'Baffling' to see Earps talk publicly about a team-mate

Earps has admitted wanting to retire upon finding out that Wiegman was planning to make Hampton England's new starting goalkeeper for the Euros. She was initially persuaded to stay, but given the very sudden nature of her eventual decision and announcement, Williams suggested it was inevitable that something would eventually come out about how it happened.

But now that Earps has gone public, Williams said it lacks respect: "I honestly didn't like Mary’s comments about Hannah. It's quite baffling to see Mary come out publicly and talk about a former international team-mate in this way.

"Looking back at the way her retirement played out, I was expecting something to come out eventually. It was bound to happen when you consider a player as popular as Mary to retire on the eve of a major tournament, although I couldn't have predicted Mary to talk about Hannah in the way she did, because you need to respect your team-mates whether you like them or not. The extract from the book has confirmed my initial thoughts because she described that an uncomfortable environment in camp led to her decision."

How can a player question Wiegman?

Williams said that Wiegman even discussing her intention to bring Hampton back to the England squad following a brief spell out of favour was more than she ever got from a manager. The Dutch coach has won three back-to-back European Championships with two different countries and has led to teams to each of the last two World Cup finals. For those achievements and her known player management skills, she commands more respect than most in the game.

"Regarding her comments about Sarina, the fact that the England boss sat her down to explain the reasons why she was bringing Hannah back shows the respect she has for Mary," Williams continued. "I was in the England set-up for around 19 years and not once did a manager tell me that they were thinking about bringing a player back into the fold – it just doesn't happen.

"Sarina is a three-time back-to-back-to-back Euros winner and reached the World Cup finals for the last two tournaments – how can you as a player question her decision-making given her achievements? Mary also revealed that she was unhappy after Sarina didn't watch one of her games for Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately for her, the French league isn't as televised as the WSL, so if she wanted Sarina to get a closer look at her performances, maybe it would've been better for her to stay in [England]."

Getty Images SportEarps needs to 'own' what she wrote

Earps has been accused by Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor of lacking class and Williams rounded back on the idea that Earps, for all her protestation this week, must have known the impact that the book and subsequent comments made in the press while promoting the release, was going to have.

"She will have to deal with the backlash because she decided to put these comments out in public, so there are going to be opinions," the pundit said. "It's time for Mary to own what she wrote in the book because if she tries to backtrack from them, that's not a good look. Mary is a very smart person and, for whatever reason, she must've known that her quotes on Hannah and Sarina would make the headlines.

"I'm sure the book contains more details about her journey in football and the difficulties that she had to overcome to become England No.1, but those comments about her former national team manager and international team-mate have become the biggest story."

"Amazing" 4-2-3-1 tactician travelling to Ibrox to end Rangers manager search

Rangers have now turned their attention to an “amazing” manager after the deal with Kevin Muscat collapsed, with talks advancing so much the new candidate is already en route to Ibrox.

Rangers suffer Muscat blow

Until the weekend, Muscat had looked likely to take charge of the Gers, coming in as a popular appointment after spending time at the club during his playing career.

Unfortunately, the Australian has now decided against taking the job, with a breakdown in talks over the weekend, as reported by Sky Sports.

It means that Muscat joins fellow leading target Steven Gerrard in not taking the Rangers job, which must feel concerning to the supporters, in terms of managers not wanting to come in and turn things around, especially after Gerrard’s camp were alarmed by the inner workings at Ibrox.

The Gers’ season is already in danger of falling apart, following yet more dropped points in the 2-2 draw at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, and it remains to be seen who will be Martin’s successor.

Danny Rohl travelling to Glasgow to sign for Rangers

Give Me Sport revealed Rangers are in talks with Danny Rohl over the vacant manager’s job, after it was initially thought he too had removed himself from the running. Those talks have clearly advanced however, as popular podcast Heart & Hand shared further news on Monday lunchtime.

“Danny Rohl will arrive on Glasgow in the next couple of hours to finalise his deal,” they shared on social media.

“This will bring to a conclusion a two-week process that historians will use as a case study in how not to recruit a manager.”

The German should be seen as an exciting option for Rangers, with the 36-year-old a talented young manager who shone at Sheffield Wednesday in tough circumstances, being hailed by Owls legend Chris Waddle.

Granted, there is an element of risk in bringing in Rohl, who uses a 4-2-3-1 system, given his lack of experience and the fact that he is yet to manage a team of Rangers’ stature.

Rohl won't like him: Rangers must drop Ibrox star with "big potential"

It’s unlikely Smith will persist with this Rangers underperformer.

ByBen Gray Oct 20, 2025

But if those high up at the club see him as the best alternative to Muscat and Gerrard, they need to be trusted, even if that may be tough for the supporters to do following the failed appointments of Philippe Clement and Martin.

Not Saka or Rice: 8/10 monster is now looking like Arsenal's best player

Arsenal’s Premier League title charge continued on Saturday afternoon, with the Gunners breezing to a comfortable 2-0 win over a struggling West Ham United side at the Emirates.

For all the difference in form and momentum between the two teams, the hosts may well have feared yet another slip up against the Hammers, with even Graham Potter having overseen a win over the north Londoners for the visitors last season.

Thankfully, there was to be no repeat performance this time around, with goals from Declan Rice – haunting his former side yet again – and England colleague Bukayo Saka proving enough on a serene day for Mikel Arteta and co.

That Three Lions pairing remain central to everything good about the Gunners, although there is a new contender quietly emerging to be the club’s most consistent performer.

How Saka & Rice stole the show vs West Ham

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta chuckled at the memory of deploying a teenage Saka at left-back all those years ago, with Saturday having marked the Hale End graduate’s 200th Premier League appearance for the club.

The younger Saka was bright and exciting even at full-back, although the present-day version is a different proposition altogether. There’s just no stopping him when he’s at his best.

Having netted in fine fashion against Olympiakos in midweek, the 24-year-old got in on the act again after converting from the penalty spot to wrap up all three points, with the wideman stepping up to the plate ahead of summer signing Viktor Gyokeres.

That second-half strike had come following Rice’s fine effort before the break, with the marauding midfielder firing home on the rebound against his previous employers for his 17th goal for the club on his 113th outing. Remarkably, he only scored 15 times in 245 games for the Irons.

It wasn’t just that goal which was impressive about the Englishman’s performance either, with Rice also coming close to picking out that man Gyokeres, following a trademark surging run down the left.

That was one of three key passes that he provided in all, as per Sofascore, ahead of Saka’s own tally of two, with the compatriots once again showcasing their importance to this quality outfit.

Arsenal's contender for player of the season

Injury has hampered Saka’s impact thus far in 2025/26, while Saturday’s strike marked Rice’s first of the campaign, having been unable to replicate the heights of that night against Real Madrid last season.

Neither man has quite been at their brilliant best in the early weeks of the season, although one man who has put in stellar performance after stellar performance is Jurrien Timber, with the Dutchman simply a monster at right-back once again.

The man who earned the penalty which allowed Saka to convert on his milestone outing, the former Ajax defender was a constant outlet down that right flank, racking up 72 touches in total, while providing one key pass as he looked to impact proceedings in the final third.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

Also involved in the build-up to Ricardo Calafiori’s strike in first-half added time, having combined nicely with Saka inside the area, Timber represents the perfect all-rounder, having long surplanted Ben White in that right-back role.

Adept in attack but also a warrior defensively, the Netherlands international again gave short shrift to the West Ham forward line, winning eight of his contested duels, including making six tackles.

A key cog in an Arsenal backline that simply loves to defend first and foremost, it is no surprise that the Gunners are now reportedly looking to extend his contract, having already secured William Saliba’s future this week.

As noted by the Standard’s Simon Collings, who dished out an 8/10 match rating, it was another ‘top performance’ from the £38m man, having now started all six league games since the opening weekend win against Manchester United.

Lauded by podcaster Adam Keys as having “quietly become one of Arsenal’s most important players”, Timber must surely be near the top of the pile when pondering the Gunners’ player of the season so far.

Every Premier League stadium ranked by pitch sizes

The Premier League is renowned as the best league in the world given the notion any team can beat anyone.

In such a competitive league, it can often come down to the finer margins when looking for a breakthrough in the 90 minutes. Sometimes the crowd can play their part with some stadiums boasting a louder set of home fans than others.

However, Premier League stadiums are not restricted to all having the same sized pitch, which could create some issues for clubs who like to play their football in a certain way.

Here is a look at which club boasts the biggest pitch and which club may look to utilise their tight pitch.

What are the rules in the Premier League for pitch size?

Premier League clubs must abide by rules set by the Football Association when it comes to the dimensions of their pitches. The law states pitches must fall in the region of 90m – 120m in length and 45m – 90m in width.

The regulations show just how much difference there could be between pitches across the Premier League with teams able to make the playing surface to play to their advantage.

In fact, the regulations allow the playing surface itself to differ meaning clubs can only use a different grass type to what is used elsewhere.

1 City Ground – Area: 7,455m Nottingham Forest

Coming in with the biggest pitch in the Premier League is Nottingham Forest and the City Ground. Perhaps this may come as a surprise to some given Forest’s ground is by no means the biggest capacity wise, but at just over 7455m in area, it is the largest pitch.

Indeed, the City Ground is actually only the 14th biggest stadium in the league with a capacity of 30,445, however, it seems they are keen to create as much space as possible for their players to explore.

After arriving back in the Premier League last season, over the 2022/23 campaign, Forest were able to secure eight wins and six draws on home soil with just five defeats coming at the City Ground in the league.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 71m.

2 Emirates Stadium – Area: 7,140m Arsenal

There is now about to be a trend started in this list with the large majority of clubs holding the same sized pitch.

The Gunners are known for their attractive style of football which has become synonymous under the recent Mikel Arteta revolution in north London.

So it is no surprise to see Arsenal do not play on one of the league’s smaller pitches. However, it is perhaps a surprise that they do not play on a slightly bigger pitch given the brand of football they enjoy playing.

It is seemingly a pitch which works for the Gunners, though, with Arteta’s men winning 14 of their 19 home games in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

3 Villa Park – Area: 7,140m Aston Villa

Life under Unai Emery has been positive for Aston Villa, and it is apparent they are beginning to make Villa Park a bit of a fortress under the Spaniard.

Indeed, under Emery, Villa have won 10 of their 14 league games at Villa Park – at the time of writing.

Perhaps the excitement around the fans is providing the players with a big boost, but it seems they have also adapted the Spaniard’s style well to the size of the Villa Park pitch.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

4 Vitality Stadium – Area: 7,140m Bournemouth

Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium.

This is perhaps slightly surprising given the size of the stadium, but Bournemouth’s pitch is still the same size as the likes of Arsenal.

The Vitality Stadium is still a tiny ground by Premier League standards at just over 11,000 capacity. Nevertheless, it seems the size of the pitch – which runs close to the stands – is working for the Cherries who were able to secure a 15th-placed finish in the 2022/23 campaign.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

5 Gtech Community Stadium – Area: 7,140m Brentford

Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium.

Similarly to Bournemouth, Brentford have one of the league’s smaller stadiums, yet they still have – what appears to be – the standard sized pitch.

The Bees are now into their third top flight season of action in the Community Stadium which was opened in September 2020.

And again, whether it is the close feeling created by the small feeling, the fans or the pitch, something is working for Thomas Frank’s side who have an excellent home record in the Premier League.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

6 Amex Stadium – Area: 7,140m Brighton & Hove Albion

The Seagulls have been flying high at times in the Premier League, and they are doing so on the league’s most-used sized pitch.

There has been little to complain about for Brighton fans on the south coast with the free-flowing football now also bringing in the results to match. European football has even been played at the Amex Stadium.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

7 Turf Moor – Area: 7,140m Burnley

Burnley's Turf Moor.

Returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking, Burnley’s Turf Moor also boasts a pitch size of 7,140m in area.

The Clarets have often been branded as playing a long-ball style of football, however, under Vincent Kompany, that has all changed.

Burnley have had a torrid time of things at home this season, but their away record isn’t amazing either, so it just appears as if the quality of the Premier League is too much right now.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

8 Hill Dickinson Stadium – Area: 7,140m Everton

Everton moved into their new Hill Dickinson Stadium in 2025, with the Toffees’ modern ground holding a capacity of more than 50,000.

Those on the blue side of Merseyside have made their pitch the standard size in the division after it took three and a half years to build.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

9 Elland Road – Area: 7,140m Leeds

A trip to Leeds and Elland Road is a daunting prospect for most teams in the Premier League due to the atmospehre created by the Whites and the fact that fans are in close to the pitch.

The Yorkshire side’s ground holds more than 37,000, although they do have plans to hit over 56,000 and is another with an area of 7,140m.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

10 Etihad Stadium – Area: 7,140m Manchester City

Manchester City also play on a 7,140m pitch, and it is apparent it is just the right fit for Pep Guardiola’s men.

They have become the team to beat in the Premier League over recent years and their free-flowing style of football has proven hard to match for many sides.

It is interesting to consider the pitch at the Etihad is the same size as that at Bournemouth, for example, but it seems it is big enough for the Citizens to play at their full potential under their Spanish boss.

The pitch dimensions are 105m x 68m.

Man City have signed a "magician" who looks like another David Silva

Manchester City have dominated the Premier League over the past 14 years. Even before Pep Guardiola’s historic appointment, the club had risen to the fore, winning the 2011/12 and 2013/14 titles.

But the 54-year-old has taken a good thing and made it immortal. Man City’s dynasty is among the greatest in modern European history.

Now, he’s tasked with fashioning the next phase in the project, with the Citizens having struggled through 2024/25 and ending up empty-handed on the trophy front, save for the Community Shield on the opening day of the year.

A transitional period this may be, but Manchester City are masters of the market. Many clubs have financial strength, but not the wherewithal and expertise to make their ambition count.

So often, City hit the jackpot, and they certainly did with David Silva. If Guardiola’s final chapter is to be an illustrious one, he will hope to craft a new version of the iconic Spaniard.

David Silva's Man City record

15 years ago, in 2010, Manchester City signed Silva from Valencia for a £24m fee. It was second time lucky for England’s new superpower after missing out on the nifty playmaker in 2008.

Despite an impressive start to life in his homeland, Silva arrived in England, regularly benched across the opening weeks of his first season, before finding his feet across the second half of the year.

Humble beginnings led to illustrious success, the kind which few players ever come close to scraping. Silva won so many trophies, but his intelligence, style and silkiness on the ball were among the best the Premier League has seen.

Guardiola, certainly, has overseen few better, calling his countryman “one of the best ever” back in 2019.

He played 436 matches. He scored 77 goals. He supplied 136 assists. Silva won the full gamut in England, and though he had departed before City finally struck gold in the Champions League, their triumph was pillared by the Spaniard’s tireless work across many seasons in Manchester.

With 97 assists in the Premier League, Silva is seventh in the all-time standings. And with Kevin De Bruyne having vacated his throne this summer, it was imperative that a new playmaking force was signed.

So often, Man City strike gold in the transfer market. Might they have done so with their new version of Silva?

Man City's new David Silva

Silva’s dynamism and expertise on the ball helped shift City toward their ball-playing style of play. A glittering career in England was lifted upon Guardiola’s appointment; they were, in many ways, a match made in heaven.

Now, Pep may have landed his next version in Rayan Cherki, who plays in a more advanced and often wider berth than the 2010 World Cup champion is remembered by, but Silva operated across many positions, especially during the earlier phase of his career.

Signed from Lyon in an initial £30.5m deal this summer, French creator Cherki found fame in his homeland, considered among the most exciting talents in the country from an early age and enjoying a prolific final year with Les Gones, posting 13 goals and 21 assists across all competitions.

Like Silva, the “ballon d’Or level talent”, as he has been called by data analyst Ben Mattinson, is an elite close-control operator, with awareness and flair of a similar calibre

Moreover, the 22-year-old is positionally versatile, much like a young Silva, and if he works on his composure and work rate across the deeper phases of play, could be fashioned into a maestro like the former City skipper.

He does, after all, rank among the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and the top 2% for progressive passes per 90, data via FBref, emphasising his potential suitability for the role.

Thigh injuries have limited the Frenchman’s match action to just three matches this season, but he did score off the bench on City’s opening-day thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers, then playing almost an hour against Tottenham Hotspur, creating a big chance and winning five duels.

The fact that the fleet-footed talent has featured 185 times for Lyon and had a meeting with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot this summer, discussing a potential move to Merseyside, emphasises the calibre of player Guardiola has got his hands on.

And given Pep’s track record at elevating stars to elite status, there’s little question Cherki is in the perfect place to take that huge stride forward, having already been recognised by journalist Julien Laurens for being “a magician” when on the ball.

This special star was welcomed to help shape this next era at Manchester City, and it’s perhaps exciting that the club are finding their footing at this early-season stage without Cherki firing on all cylinders, or indeed playing at all.

Man City know they haven’t signed the finished article in Cherki, but a player who has the capacity to become one of the best in the world.

When Man City signed a 24-year-old Silva from Valencia in 2010, they gambled on a talented maestro with potential untapped.

As was so often the case during those early Sheikh Mansour days, the Etihad side got bang for their buck – and much, much more.

Not just Haaland: Man City monster already looks like another £100m player

While Erling Haaland has stolen the show, this Man City star has been crucial this season.

Man Utd player ratings vs Brighton: Jess Park, that is brilliant! Star scores best goal of the game as Marc Skinner's side win five-goal thriller after Elisabeth Terland and Lisa Naalsund strikes to continue unbeaten start to WSL season

Manchester United closed the gap on their title rivals as they defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2 to stay unbeaten in the Women’s Super League. Elisabeth Terland, Jess Park and Lisa Naalsund did the damage for the Red Devils as Marc Skinner’s in-form side kept pace with Chelsea and Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

After riding an early wave of pressure from Dario Vidosic's Brighton, United grew into the first half as Terland and Park had efforts blocked, while Ella Toone went close with a half volley.

Skinner's side then took the lead through Norway international Terland, who scored against her former club after some good work from Toone in the build up. Continuing to impress after being brought back into the starting XI, Park then scored her fourth league goal of the season with a left-footed drive after the break.

Brighton made things interesting when Fran Kirby and Kiko Seike scored either side of substitute Naalsund’s delightful effort, but the visitors held on for a first league win at Broadfield Stadium since the 2022-23 campaign. With the victory, third-placed United moved to within two points of leaders Chelsea and one away from local rivals City, who are currently second.

Jack Haynes was in the runs again for Notts•Jack Bird

Somerset 379 (Banton 84, Abbas 3-59) and 4 for 1 trail Nottinghamshire 509 (Haynes 157, Slater 124, Kishan 77, James 66, Leach 6-121) by 126 runsJack Haynes hit his third Rothesay County Championship century of the season to lead Division One leaders Nottinghamshire into a strong position on the third day of the match with Somerset at the Cooper Associates Ground, Taunton.Starting the day on 214 for three in reply to their opponents’ first innings score of 379, the visitors ran up 509 all out, Haynes leading the way with a career-best 157, while Ben Slater fell early for 124, Ishan Kishan made 77 and Lyndon James 66.Jack Leach ended a tough day for Somerset’s bowlers on an unhelpful pitch with hugely creditable figures of six for 121 from 53.2 overs, displaying exemplary accuracy as Notts steadily built a lead of 130. The hosts had to face one over before stumps and closed on four for one, nightwatchman Matt Henry bowled by Patterson-White’s final delivery.Unbeaten on 34 overnight, Haynes’ hundred occupied 176 balls and featured 11 fours and a six. It was just the innings his side required to first stave off any prospect of a significant first-innings deficit and then build what could prove a match-winning advantage.Leach opened Somerset’s attack at the start of play, bowling in tandem with off-spinner Archie Vaughan, and struck an early blow when Slater, having added only eight to his overnight score, aimed a back-foot forcing shot and edged a catch to wicketkeeper James Rew. It proved Somerset’s only success before lunch, despite taking the second new ball at 238 for four.Haynes went to a 92-ball fifty and found a more aggressive partner in Kishan, who quickly dispatched a delivery from Matt Henry over fine leg for six with a vicious pull shot to bring 250 up. On 60, Haynes survived a confident shout for a catch behind off Leach, but it was a rare moment of alarm for Notts as they closed in on Somerset’s total.By lunch, the scoreboard read 322 for four, Kishan having just moved to a half-century off 83 balls, with four fours and two sixes. The deficit was down to 57 and Haynes was looking rock solid on 81.The pattern continued in the afternoon session, Haynes pulling a boundary off Vaughan to bring up the century partnership. Somerset then had two difficult chances to make a much-needed breakthrough as Kishan offered low diving chances to wicketkeeper Rew down the leg side off Kasey Aldridge and Craig Overton at slip off Vaughan.Notts looked set to collect a third batting point when moving to 347 for four with five balls remaining of the 110th over, but Aldridge prevented Kishan from scoring from any of them. It was a minor setback as Haynes went to his eighth first class hundred, and third of the season, with a boundary off a leg-side full toss from Aldridge. The fifth-wicket stand was worth 138 when Kishan edged a delivery from Leach onto his front pad and presented a straightforward catch to Tom Abell at short-leg. The Indian wicketkeeper had faced 128 balls and increased his boundary count to eight fours and two sixes.James had a scare with only a single to his same when edging Leach through the legs of wicketkeeper Rew standing up to the stumps. That was as good as it got for Somerset as tea was taken with Notts 431 for five and leading by 52 runs. The final session saw James go to fifty off 87 balls, with 7 fours, before Haynes brought up his maiden 150, having faced 287 deliveries and struck 15 fours and two sixes. Their century stand followed as Somerset continued to toil in the warm sunshine.Haynes finally fell lbw trying to sweep Leach with the lead just short of 100. Liam Patterson-White was then stumped pushing forward to Vaughan before the tireless Leach made it a five-for, turning a ball from on leg stump to force Brett Hutton to edge to slip.Farhan Ahmed departed to Vaughan for a duck and James edged a drive off Leach to slip, but by then it was Nottinghamshire’s highest ever total at Taunton.

Tushar Raheja the hero as Tiruppur win maiden TNPL title

Sathvik and Esakkimuthu were the other key players in the game as Dindigul went down by 118 runs

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Jul-2025A stellar TNPL season for Tushar Raheja ended with the opening batter leading IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans to their maiden title. The 24-year-old made 77 off 46 balls to propel his team to a total of 220 for 5 against Dindigul Dragons, who simply crumbled in the chase, getting bowled out for 102.Raheja finished the Tamil Nadu Premier League as its highest scorer with 488 runs at a strike rate of 186. His aggression at the top of the order helped Tiruppur dictate terms after they were put in to bat. Raheja hit six fours and four sixes and by the time he was dismissed in the 16th over, his team had 160 on the board.Amit Sathvik caused just as much damage, striking his fourth half-century in five T20s and taking him to third place (340) on the season’s highest run-getters list. The 22-year-old clattered eight fours and three sixes on his way to 65 off 34 balls as the Dragons bowlers were left scratching their heads. Four of the six they used had economy rates in the double-digits and even Ashwin (9) and Varun Chakravarthy (9.75) weren’t spared. With the platform set by the top-order, Tiruppur scored 60 runs off the last 4.5 overs to finish with 220 for 5.Dindigul were never in the chase, losing four wickets by the end of the powerplay. They were barely hanging on at the halfway stage, with eight of their batters already back in the pavilion. Raghupathy Silambarasan (2-12), T Natarajan (1-19), Mohan Prasath (2-18) and A Esakkimuthu (2-27) made significant impacts with the ball. The 23-year-old Esakkimuthu in his first professional T20 tournament ended up as its second-highest wicket-taker with 14 strikes at an economy rate of 7.46. Dindigul were bowled out in 14.4 overs as Sai Kishore and his men lifted the title.
