THE BIGGER PICTURE
And according to a new report from , it is understood the decision to sack Levy was part of ENIC's new strategy to help Tottenham build on their Europa League victory in May – the club's first trophy in 17 years. The report claims ENIC and Lewis have no interest in selling the club and therefore the £100m boost is designed to help Spurs bridge the gap between themselves and Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and fierce rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham already spent over £150m in the summer as they aimed to back Thomas Frank in his first season in charge of the club. The north Londoners signed Xavi Simons and Mohamed Kudus from RB Leipzig and West Ham United respectively, while Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso joined on permanent deals following their loan spells last season. Spurs also sealed temporary moves for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha and Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.

WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?
Next up for Tottenham is an away trip to London rivals West Ham in the Premier League on September 13. Frank's men then get their Champions League campaign under way when they play host to La Liga outfit Villarreal on September 16.
Manchester United have now made contact with the agents of a “wonderful” £100m rising star, who could join after RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
Sesko set for Man Utd medical
Man United now look set to win the race for Sesko, despite rival interest from Newcastle United, and Romano has revealed that a deal is edging closer to completion.
In fact, the Slovenia international is now “ready to fly” to England to complete a move to Old Trafford, having struck an agreement on personal terms, with United trying to get the deal over the line as soon as possible.
Should the Red Devils complete a move for Sesko, it will be a huge relief for Ruben Amorim, having chased a new centre-forward throughout the summer, but it is not the only position in which the manager is looking to strengthen.
According to a new update from Romano on X, Man United are also keen to get a new defensive midfielder through the door, having made an approach to the agents of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.
Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba
After wrapping up the deal for Sesko, United plan to try and bring in a new midfielder, but a deal for Baleba could be difficult, given that he is valued very highly by his current employers.
In fact, transfer expert Graeme Bailey believes the Seagulls could hold out for £100m, adding: “I am told that Brighton are not contemplating a Baleba sale this summer and are not encouraging it either. They are saying he is not for sale.”
"Wonderful" Baleba could take Man Utd's midfield to next level
Man United already have Manuel Ugarte at their disposal in defensive midfield, but the 24-year-old received widespread criticism for his debut season at Old Trafford, and the more experienced Casemiro hasn’t always set the world alight either.
In fact, former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher infamously suggested the Brazilian’s time at the top level is over.
Consequently, it is no surprise that Amorim is looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder this summer, and the Brighton star clearly has what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford, having been lauded by Alan Shearer for a fantastic all-round performance against Manchester City last season.
Shearer said: “He was absolutely wonderful and he just changed the tempo of the game. He changed the performance of Brighton. Not only on the front foot but he did his bit defensively as well and he got wired in which no one really did in the first half.”
With Baleba also placing in the 90th percentile for interceptions per 90 over the past year, and the 85th percentile for blocks, he is evidently a very talented defensive midfielder, but the £100m asking price could be prohibitive.

India’s T20 World Cup semi-final hopes have been taken out of their hands after a nine-run defeat to Australia in their final group-stage match. India have lost two of their four matches and will have to wait on the result of New Zealand vs Pakistan tomorrow to find out if they will advance to the knockouts. Any margin of victory for New Zealand will eliminate India but a Pakistan victory will decide the semi-finalists on net run rate.Permutations aside, the tournament finally got the thriller it had been crying out for in an intense clash in front of an electric, sold-out Sharjah crowd of 14,946. They were treated to a high-octane affair with both sides acutely aware of what was at stake amid injury concerns. Australia were without captain, opening batter and wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy, who arrived on crutches after sustaining a foot injury against Pakistan, and Tayla Vlaeminck, who has been ruled out of the tournament.India also lost Asha Sobhana to a knee injury after the toss and needed Australia’s permission to replace her in the XI, which was given. Radha Yadav, who had appeared as a substitute fielder in previous games, was included in Asha’s place. Later, Renuka Singh left the field limping after bowling her four overs but came back to face the final ball of the match.Harmanpreet Kaur’s fifty was not enough to take India over the line•Getty Images
By then, India’s chances of victory were gone after their chase started brightly but was pinned back by wickets at crucial times. They were 47 for 3 in the seventh over before a 63-run stand between Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma put them back on track. A collapse of 6 for 31 left Harmanpreet the last batter standing and despite a second successive half-century, she could not take India over the line alone.Australia were uncharacteristically messy in the field, put down two chances and bowled four wides and a no-ball but had enough at their disposal to defend. Grace Harris, opening in Healy’s place, was their top-scorer with a 41-ball 40 and shared a 62-run stand with Tahlia McGrath, which steadied Australia after two early losses. Ellyse Perry’s 23-ball 32 gave them much-needed impetus at the end.
Wary Wareham doesn’t review
Australia were off to a slowish start with 17 runs from their first 16 balls when Renuka struck with a delivery that angled away from Beth Mooney. Australia’s senior opener reached for it and hit a low chance to Radha at backward point, where she dived forward to take a good catch. Georgia Wareham was pushed up to No. 3, where she has occasionally been used as a pinch hitter, and the first ball she faced thudded into the front pad as she missed her flick.Renuka was joined by every single one of her team-mates in appealing and umpire Sue Redfern eventually raised her finger as Wareham began walking off. Harris asked Wareham if she wanted to review but she decided against it, only to return to the dressing room and find out that ball tracking showed that the ball would go on to miss leg stump by some distance. Australia held Perry back and stand-in captain McGrath was in at No. 4, where she had to rebuild.
Middle-overs acceleration from McGrath and Harris
Harris and McGrath took Australia to 37 for 2 in the powerplay and launched into attack mode from the eighth over, when they both took on Pooja Vastrakar. McGrath hit her through cover for four and then Harris scooped her over fine leg in an over that cost ten runs and took Australia past fifty. Australia were 65 for 2 at the halfway stage of their innings and the Harris-McGrath stand grew to 62 off 54 balls and India were desperate to separate them.Tahlia McGrath led Australia’s recovery from No. 4•ICC/Getty Images
They reviewed an lbw appeal against McGrath off a Renuka full toss which was missing leg. McGrath was then dropped on 31 by Harmanpreet off Radha at cover. The India captain got both hands on the ball but it burst through. Harris hit the next ball in the air and Harmanpreet ran back to try and take an overhead catch but missed. It was third time lucky for India when McGrath charged Radha, missed and Richa Ghosh stumped her.
And then drama
Harris went nine balls later when she pulled her WPL team-mate Deepti to Smriti Mandhana at short mid-on and India had their foot on the Australian middle order’s throat when Ashleigh Gardner’s leading edge found Radha at cover. After 15 overs, Australia were 101 for 5. Perry showed intent when she took 13 runs off Shreyanka Patil’s third over.India thought they had another important breakthrough when Deepti appealed for lbw after Phoebe Litchfield missed an attempted reverse sweep. Redfern gave it out on field and Litchfield was walking but Perry convinced her to review. The ball was pitching outside leg stump and even though Litchfield changed her stance, the third umpire Jacqueline Williams deemed that Litchfield did that only after the ball was delivered and asked Redfern to change her decision to not out. India initially protested the decision but soon calmed down. Litchfield was on 5 at the time, finished the innings unbeaten on 15, and hit a six off the last ball.
Shafali smashes it upfront but India lose two in the powerplay
India’s intent was evident off the bat of Shafali Verma, who had to wait until only the sixth ball she faced when she found the boundary with great force. She slogged Gardner over square leg for India’s first four, then sent Megan Schutt over her head for four more and finally went all the way, slamming Schutt over long-off. Shafali had soon raced to 20 off 12 balls but fell to Gardner for the fifth time in T20Is, trying to clear Annabel Sutherland at long-on.Shafali Verma found the fielder to the T after a blazing start•ICC/Getty Images
Australia sensed an opportunity to break through and when Sutherland rapped Jemimah Rodrigues on the pad. They reviewed the call after it was given not out only to find that the impact was outside the line. Their next review was successful, when Mandhana was beaten on the pull and hit on the back thigh off Sophie Molineux’s quick, skiddy first ball. Ball-tracking confirmed it was hitting the middle of middle stump and India ended their powerplay on 41 for 2.
Australia put the brakes on
Australia got even further ahead when Rodrigues pulled Schutt straight to Gardner at deep midwicket in the seventh over. It allowed them to apply the squeeze. Deepti gloved a sweep for four in the eighth over but then there were no boundaries for three overs, at the end of which Australia had confirmed their semi-final spot.Harmanpreet pulled Darcie Brown through deep square leg in the 11th over, which was her first boundary and off the 15th ball she faced. Another 20 balls went by before India found the boundary again, in the 14th over by which point the required run rate was above ten an over. India needed 62 runs off the last six overs.
Another half-century for Harmanpreet but it’s not enough
The India captain almost single-handedly kept her side in the hunt, especially when the boundaries dried up. At the end of the 14th over, she hit the four that reignited the chase and she went on to find gaps in the field that kept India in it. After Deepti sent Wareham over short fine for four, Harmanpreet bisected the gap between extra cover and mid-off.Deepti and Ghosh were dismissed in the space of three balls and Harmanpreet struck successive fours off Gardner to make sure India stayed in the contest. She brought up fifty off 44 balls but was at the non-striker’s end for most of the final over, from where watched four wickets fall and India’s chances fade away.
Tottenham Hotspur were left feeling rather empty when Daniel Levy made the bold decision to dismiss Ange Postecoglou at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, just weeks after he ended 17 years of silverware-searching by winning the Europa League.
But Spurs’ 17th-place Premier League was inexcusable, and the cracks ran back through the lion’s share of the previous season, with injuries yet again wreaking havoc down N17.
Tottenham Hotspur manager AngePostecogloucelebrates after winning the Europa League
And anyway, Tottenham have at least appointed the perfect successor, with Thomas Frank having left his admired Brentford post to lead the Londoners into a new era.
With last year’s title paving the road into the Champions League, sights are now set on going from strength to strength. Frank has certainly started off on firm footing there, having welcomed Mohammed Kudus into his brood, with Levy also activating permanent options in Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso’s loan deals.
But more is certainly needed.
The latest Spurs transfer news
Tottenham thought they had reached an agreement to sign Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, but the Tricky Trees are looking to put paid to the move, alleging that the Lilywhites illegally approached the England international.
As such, it appears Frank has swivelled his outfit’s attention to RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, having initiated talks. Arsenal and Chelsea both have concrete interests of their own.
Simons would add an elite injection of creativity and dynamism into the attacking midfield, but Spurs are also seeking an industrious, deeper-lying player.
And according to Football Insider, their sights are set on Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Oliver Glasner is desperate to keep the 21-year-old, with Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi both slated for departures from south London this summer.
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton
Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid have also been keeping tabs on the English talent, who has been priced north of £100m by the Eagles, looking to fend off interest in their prized possession.
Why Spurs want Adam Wharton
Crystal Palace knew they had a star on their hands when signing a teenage Wharton from Blackburn Rovers for £18m in February 2024.
He had only featured 51 times for Blackburn’s senior side, but increasingly caught the eye for his confident, age-belying performances in the Championship.
Across a term-and-a-half in the Premier League, Wharton has demonstrated a tactical aptitude and coolness on the ball that evades most young midfielders looking to earn their trade, with Three Lions teammate Declan Rice singling him out as a “top-level” midfield prospect ahead of last year’s European Championship.
As per FBref, Wharton ranked among the top 9% of central midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues last season for progressive passes, the top 7% for shot-creating actions, and the top 4% for ball recoveries per 90.
Through this data, we can glean that the touted talent is nurturing one of the most exciting passing profiles in the business, with his immense rate of recovery indicating an energy and athleticism that would be perfect for Frank’s high-energy style of play.
He’s only played 36 times in the English top flight, racking up five assists, but Wharton has already proven himself to be a superstar in the making, instrumental in helping Palace toward their maiden FA Cup title, defeating Manchester City in the final.
Beforehand, journalist Henry Winter had lauded the maestro as a “passing machine” for his effort against Aston Villa in the semi-final, continuing to label him as “the best player on the pitch.”
Though Tottenham already have talented creative midfielders such as James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, the Englishman is routinely injured and knocked out of kilter, talented though he is, while Kulusevski is more of a workhorse, and whether Frank opts to deploy him down the right flank with a greater regularity remains to be seen.
Simons, a 28-cap Netherlands international, isn’t quite the same profile as Gibbs-White, who can play deeper and is perhaps more embracing of the defensive side of the game, but he would still be a significant addition to a Tottenham side looking to make an impact across multiple fronts.
The 22-year-old, moreover, is tactically sharp and incredibly potent when in dangerous positions, be that as a creator or someone willing to strike on goal. In this way, he could be a wonderful partner for Wharton, whose stroked long passes would find a home at the Dutchman’s feet, who, in space, can make things happen.

Wharton is not one-note, either. Across the recent Premier League campaign, injuries limited him to just 16 starts. But, as per Sofascore, he still applied an active defensive presence, averaging one interception and 1.7 tackles per game, also avoiding a single error across the term.
Contrast that with, say, Yves Bissouma, who made six errors of various shapes and sizes despite only starting 16 matches himself, and you can really see the kind of upgrade Tottenham would enjoy in the engine room by signing Wharton.
This steely stability would be perfect for a playmaker such as Simons, who would need to look around and see a fluent system in order to settle and thrive.
Crystal Palace's AdamWhartonin action with Ipswich Town's Julio Enciso
Completing these deals would achieve a sense of synergy that simply wasn’t there last season, with Wharton establishing a strong through line into the final third, which Simons could clasp onto and make things happen for a Frank team who promise so much, who are capable of so much.
Their own Gyokeres: "Sensational" £50m striker now wants to sign for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur could be edging closer to another big-money signing this summer.
Kickstarting their summer business and welcoming a replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri, Wolverhampton Wanderers have now reportedly agreed a deal to sign their third arrival of the window.
Wolves' transfer window so far
Like much of the Premier League’s bottom half, Wolves have endured a fairly quiet transfer window this summer. Despite losing both Matheus Cunha and Ait-Nouri in big-money deals, the Midlands club have failed to welcome an overhaul of fresh faces. Instead, just the two have arrived in the form of Fer Lopez and, most recently, Jhon Arias.
After becoming the latest to arrive, Arias said: “Of course you can’t deny that there are great clubs in England, with a lot of power. But I also believe a lot in Wolverhampton.
“It’s a project that was presented to me, with great players. I don’t even need to talk about André, who you know here from Brazil, or João Gomes, who played for Flamengo, I faced him a lot, I know what a great player he is. Only there you can see that there are many South Americans known from Brazilian football.
“So I believe in the cast they have, in the players they have, and in the coach, who is a guy with a sensational job. So I’m calm about what I’m going to face, knowing what they expect from me. I’ll arrive to give 100%, add to everything the club already has.”
Approach made: Wolves now make enquiry to sign "unbelievable" £15m striker
The Old Gold have made contact over a deal for a centre-forward, with Vitor Pereira looking to bolster his attacking options.
ByDominic Lund Jul 30, 2025
Wolves fans have every right to be excited by the South American’s arrival too. Just last season, Arias created as many as 13 goals whilst scoring four himself in all competitions for Fluminense and will now have the clinical Jorgen Strand Larsen in front of him to add to those numbers.
Meanwhile, with Cunha now arguably replaced, those in the Midlands have now turned their attention towards filling the role of Ait-Nouri ahead of next season.
Wolves agree deal to sign David Moller Wolfe
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Wolves have now agreed a deal to sign David Moller Wolfe from AZ Alkmaar and have already booked a medical for the left-back as he prepares to fly in and complete his move.
At 23 years old, it’s clear to see why Wolves turned towards Wolfe in search of replacing Ait-Nouri. The Norwegian’s attacking output particularly stands out, with three goals and seven assists in all competitions last season representing a player who could make sure that Pereira forgets all about his former star left-back.
David Moller Wolfe in action for Norway.
Praised as “athletic” by analyst Ben Mattinson last summer, Wolfe is now destined to become Wolves’ third signing of the summer as the Premier League campaign draws closer and closer.
Manchester United know all about losing a marquee player – and the struggle of trying to replace them – having memorably sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for a then-world record fee in 2009.
With the Portuguese sensation heading for Spain, in came Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen and Gabriel Obertan to try and fill the void. Have United ever truly recovered from that transfer disaster?
Perhaps those at Newcastle United are fearing a similar story, with free-scoring talisman Alexander Isak having outlined his desire to join Premier League champions, Liverpool. The Merseysiders have already seen a £110m bid rejected for the wantaway Swede.
For a side heading back into the Champions League, losing such a player would be a significant blow for the Magpies, with the 25-year-old having netted 44 league goals across the last two seasons combined.
Described as “the most in-form striker” in the world by potential new teammate, Virgil van Dijk, an Isak exit would prove a real setback at St James’ Park. Back at Old Trafford, meanwhile, Ruben Amorim could be facing his own transfer turmoil once again.
Manchester United star attracting Saudi interest
It has become evident who United are desperate to sell this summer, with Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony all forming part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’, having been exiled from Amorim’s pre-season plans.
In the case of Antony, the Brazilian has been touted for a return to Real Betis following last term’s profitable loan adventure, although recent reports have indicated that he could also be in line for a reunion with the aforementioned Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian side, Al Nassr.
It isn’t just whom Ronaldo and manager Jorge Jesus have their eye on, however, with Portuguese outlet A Bola reporting that the Pro League outfit are attempting to make their own approach for Red Devils skipper, Bruno Fernandes.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
As per the report, it is claimed that talks have already taken place regarding a possible switch, with Jesus – who managed Fernandes at Sporting – keen to know if the 30-year-old would be keen on a reunion.
It remains to be seen whether that prior association with both Ronaldo and Jesus would encourage the playmaker to change his mind, having already turned down a lucrative move to Al Hilal earlier in the summer.
There was a debate at the time of that prior £80m interest as to whether such a sale would be worth considering for Amorim and co. As it was then, however, the answer should be no.
Why Man Utd must hold firm despite Saudi interest
Returning back to Isak for a moment, it is easy to see why Newcastle have remained firm on their desire to keep hold of the former Real Sociedad man so far. Indeed, last season saw him score 27 times in all competitions, with no other player on Tyneside even reaching double figures.
Isak
That certainly has parallels to the importance of Fernandes back in Manchester, with the former Sporting CP star having led the way with 19 goals in all competitions – eight ahead of Garnacho and Amad in joint-second.
Described as “one of the top players in the world” by Amorim earlier this year, Fernandes also led the way with regard to assists, having chipped in with 19 across all fronts in 2024/25.
Again, only Garnacho and Amad reached double figures in that regard, although both men only reached ten assists – further highlighting just how remarkable a season it was for Fernandes on an individual basis.
Whether it’s operating as part of the midfield two or as a number ten, United’s captain is simply so influential, with former boss Erik ten Hag correct in his assertion that he is simply a “genius”.

Such quality has even been evident again this summer, as if anyone needed a reminder, with Fernandes scoring twice as United saw off West Ham United in the Premier League summer series, a brace that included a stunning strike from range.
The manner in which the £300k-per-week midfielder almost passed the ball into the roof of the net with next to no backlift helped to once again rubberstamp his unique qualities.
Indeed, much like those of a Newcastle persuasion would feel if they receive their £150m valuation for Isak, how do you go about replacing such a superstar talent?
There might come a time when this United side eventually outgrows Fernandes, or even begins to break free from his influence, but heading into 2025/26, they remain a better team with him at the helm.
Much like it would be a disaster for the Magpies to lose Isak with the new season just a matter of weeks away, the Red Devils simply can’t afford to sanction their own high profile exit.

Should Rohit or Surya replace Hardik as MI captain?
Mumbai Indians are set to retain their four major Indian players – Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav – along with Tilak Varma ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. With those five capped players retained, MI can use their one right-to-match option only on an uncapped player at the auction. While the individual amounts for each of their retained player is yet to be ascertained, MI will lose at least INR 75 crore from their purse of INR 120 crore, or more if they have paid a higher aggregate amount to the five.MI had a disappointing IPL 2024, finishing at the bottom of the league under the leadership of Hardik, who was traded in from Gujarat Titans and replaced Rohit as captain. Hardik was regularly booed at various venues last season as fans expressed their displeasure at the change of leadership, but he bounced back from poor personal form with significant contributions during India’s successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. However, Suryakumar was preferred as India’s T20I captain after that tournament once Rohit retired from the format, even though Hardik had captained India in T20Is for much of 2023.Related

Nottingham Forest are working hard to secure new arrivals and could be given a helping hand by claiming a sizeable windfall from one of their first-team assets, according to reports.
Nottingham Forest remain in deadlock over Morgan Gibbs-White
Truthfully, nothing of note has changed in Morgan Gibbs-White’s precarious situation at Nottingham Forest after they threatened to take legal action against Tottenham Hotspur following the latter triggering the England international’s release clause.
While it remains to be seen whether the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man stays in the Midlands, the Tricky Trees have reportedly identified Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey as a replacement.

Everton and West Ham United are also interested in the midfielder, though Ben Jacobs has also confirmed that Bilal El Khannouss is another Nottingham Forest option.
Addressing their interest in the Leicester City playmaker, he stated: “It’s buying Forest time and in the time taken, Forest are looking at Morgan Gibbs-White replacements, which tells you they still think there’s a chance he could go to Spurs.
“Bilal El Khannouss, at Leicester, is one name to watch. He has a 26m euro relegation release clause, and Forest are one of at least three Premier League clubs that have expressed an interest in the Moroccan international.”

Jair Cunha and Igor Jesus have arrived at the City Ground from Botafogo, albeit Nuno Espirito Santo has struggled to follow up on bringing in the duo as the marketspace becomes increasingly competitive.
Nevertheless, there is plenty of time left to secure new arrivals, offering optimism that he will eventually put together the components needed for Nottingham Forest to have a successful window, though he will also need to sell players to balance the books.
Botafogo agree deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Danilo
According to Globo Esporte, Botafogo have agreed to sign Nottingham Forest star Danilo and only the final details of a deal remain to be ironed out before his transfer back to Brazil is sealed.
An agreement is in place between all parties, and it is said that the value of his move equates to around £19 million. The former Palmeiras man will sign a four-year contract after negotiations accelerated due to Gregore’s departure to Al-Rayyan.

Labelled “wonderful” by Nuno after unfortunately breaking his ankle, the Salvador-born man has struggled to get back to his best form since and now appears set to reignite his career back in familiar surroundings.
It should be noted that he was initially hesistant to commit to Botafogo amid his association with their rivals, Palmeiras, but he is now ready to take the plunge under Davide Ancelotti’s stewarship.
Nottingham Forest may be losing a talented squad player, though his exit may offer up further funds to pursue reinforcements in the engine room once all documentation is signed and sealed.
