Eddie Howe's side are looking to add a right winger to the squad in the summer transfer window. The search has led them to make an offer for Elanga but it has been rejected outright, according to The Athletic. Forest have made it clear they have "no intention" of selling their winger after a season where he scored six goals and provided 11 assists in the Premier League.

The Magpies are now said to be deciding whether to continue their interest or look for alternatives. Semenyo has also been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham, while Spurs are also thought to have targeted Kudus, too.

'Probably got to be a bit smarter' – Maxwell's ankle adds World Cup uncertainty

The allrounder continues to feel the impact of the badly broken leg he suffered last year

Alex Malcolm04-Sep-2023Glenn Maxwell says he is going to have to carefully manage his preparation ahead of the ODI World Cup and may not play all of the lead-in series against India after he was ruled out of the recent T20I series in South Africa due to soreness in his ankle stemming from his previously broken leg.Maxwell was only in South Africa for four days after experiencing soreness in his left ankle while running a lap at his first training session. It is the same leg that he, in his own words, “snapped in half” in a freak accident last November. He has screws still in the ankle following surgery but this soreness stemmed from a different spot to previous pain he has experienced.Related

Abbott earns World Cup berth, Australia confident over fitness concerns

Speaking at the BBL overseas draft on Sunday night where he was part of Melbourne Stars’ list team, Maxwell confirmed that he had had a cortisone injection in the ankle and revealed that he was unsure how much of the India series he will play as he and the Cricket Australia strength and conditioning team try to map out a program to have him fully fit for the World Cup.”I still want to play some part of that India series,” Maxwell said. “But I’m not feeling any pressure on it. The selectors and the staff have been brilliant with me as well. They don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they’ve got a bit of extra time before the World Cup. So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a week or two behind, being able to give myself extra time and make sure we get through the whole tournament.”CA’s medical took a conservative approach by ruling him out of the T20I series in South Africa, which Australia wrapped up 3-0 on Sunday, given he was already set to miss the five ODIs that start on Thursday due to the impending birth of his first child.

“I don’t think I could have predicted how sore I was going to be once I got to South Africa. But it was one of those things. Even when I went to train that day, I still felt fine. There was nothing wrong. Something just got impinged.Glenn Maxwell on how his ankle flared up

Maxwell is expected to be named in Australia’s initial 15-player World Cup squad on Wednesday, although there are a number of other injury concerns including Mitchell Starc (groin), Steven Smith (wrist), Pat Cummins (wrist) and Ashton Agar (calf) heading into the tournament. Australia do not have to finalise the squad until September 28, after the three matches against India.Maxwell will meet with CA’s medical team on Monday to plan out the next couple of weeks leading into flying to India, after the flight to South Africa and a compromised lead-in led to the soreness he experienced.”I don’t think I could have predicted how sore I was going to be once I got to South Africa,” he said. “But it was one of those things. Even when I went to train that day, I still felt fine. There was nothing wrong. Something just got impinged. I think one of the tendons around my ankle was a little bit inflamed, there’s a bit of swelling, so it kept on catching which meant it just gave me a bit of pain. Hopefully, the cortisone takes care of that and I can get back up and running to where I was just before I went to South Africa.”We’ve probably just got to be a bit smarter going forward. Making sure that my preparation is a bit more managed, I think leading into a flight like that. I’m already back in the gym, so I’ll probably get back into full training probably this week, so it won’t be a long turnaround. It’s just knowing that I’m not over the hurdle of the original injury yet.”Complicating matters further is the birth of his first child. Maxwell is aware that he faces a delicate balancing act on all fronts over the coming weeks.”It’s going to be a busy fortnight,” Maxwell said. “I suppose I’m trying to manage my program and I’ll sit down with the strength conditioning crew tomorrow and nut out of a genuine plan but obviously there’s some distractions as well.”I’m trying to manage obviously a pretty special time my life with a pretty big time my career, trying to manage those two and work out the balance.”Glenn Maxwell has played regular cricket since return from his injury•Getty ImagesMaxwell has had a lot of cricket this year since returning from injury in February. He has played 28 T20 matches in the IPL and the Blast and two first-class games for Victoria and Warwickshire, but he has only managed one 50-over match in that time, in part due to the schedule. He was withdrawn from the Hundred prior to the issue in South Africa to rest ahead of the World Cup.He remains a vital part of Australia’s World Cup plans with his offspin especially important in India as Australia do not have a lot of spin-bowling allrounders in their squad. Smith and Travis Head are capable but neither have done much bowling in recent ODI’s. Head has bowled in just four of his last 20 ODIs, and only 13 overs in total in that time, while Smith has bowled just five overs in his last 73 ODIs. Marnus Labuschagne has been omitted from the initial 18-man World Cup squad although he is in the squad for the South Africa ODIs as Smith’s injury replacement.Australia’s selectors have called up Tim David to the South Africa ODI series to give him some exposure in case Maxwell is not fit for the World Cup. David can’t replace Maxwell’s allround skill but Maxwell believes he can translate his T20 form into the ODI format.”He’s a wonderful addition,” Maxwell said. “I think the way he batted in that first [T20I against South Africa], showed great maturity, and a great level head and I think any time you bring a player in who’s in good form, he’s got a history of great power hitting at the back end, but what we probably haven’t seen a lot on the international stage from Tim is that style of play where he is able to get through a tough time. He’s a very good player of spin. He bats well in India. It doesn’t surprise me that he’s been added to that squad.”

Despite sporadic opportunities, Ellis keen to 'keep throwing my hat in ring for selection'

Australia quick is also part of the preliminary 18-player squad for the ODI World Cup, where one of Sean Abbott and he could make the final cut

Andrew McGlashan02-Sep-2023Nathan Ellis has admitted his sporadic appearances in international colours have been a challenge, even as he forges an outstanding T20I record.Ellis claimed 3 for 25 in the second match against South Africa in Durban, including a double-wicket maiden in his opening over, to take his T20I tally to 18 in seven outings at 9.11 with an economy of 6.30.However, his opportunities have come in a stop-start manner. He was unfortunate to miss out on last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia and the two matches against South Africa have been the first time he has played consecutive games.Related

Ellis, Abbott show Australia's depth as Marsh makes dream start

Marsh, Short, Abbott sparkle as Australia seal series

“It’s something that I’ve… not struggled with, [but] you sort of have to try and become accustomed to,” he said. “I haven’t played consecutive games and have got one game here, one game there, so it’s definitely easy to fall into the mindset of ‘this is my only chance’ or ‘this could be my last chance’, that sort of thing.”So for me, one, trying to get that mentality out of my mind is a challenge, and two, I’m just trying to do the best I can any time I wear the colours. I’m under no illusions that at the current stage I’m not in the first XI, so it’s taking the opportunities when they come and doing the best I can and keep throwing my hat in the ring for selection.”The other significant aspect of Friday’s performance for Ellis was his impact on the powerplay where, along with Sean Abbott, he helped cut down South Africa’s promising start courtesy Temba Bavuma.Ellis has made his reputation as one of the best death bowlers in the T20 game – 91 of his wickets in the format have come at the death (overs 16-20) compared to 30 in the powerplay – but he is eager to become a bowler for all situations.”In T20 cricket, it’s very easy to get pigeon-holed in certain roles and I’ve been spoken about as a death bowler for a little while now,” he said. “So a big goal for me was… trying to make an impact in the powerplay, so to do that last night was obviously really great.”Ellis’ opportunities in ODI cricket have been even more limited than in T20Is, with just four matches so far. But he is part of the preliminary 18-player squad for next month’s World Cup, which will be trimmed to 15 on Tuesday. The squad can still be amended until September 28. It may be that he is in a race with Abbott, who was the Player of the Match on Friday, for the final pace-bowling slot.Ellis also has a promising red-ball record – 43 wickets at 29.33 in ten matches – but first-class ambitions may take a back seat, at least this season, with the ODI World Cup followed by the T20 event scheduled next June, all while he is also becoming a sought-after name on the global T20 circuit.”It’s definitely something I have had to think about,” he said. “I’ve had a little bit of red-ball experience with [Tasmania] and it’s something I really love doing and I’ve done okay… but on the flip side, all my opportunities for Australia have been on the white-ball set-up so it has been kind of hard to balance the two.”You add the physical element of trying to get back to Tassie and play [Sheffield] Shield cricket, you can’t really just go back after playing T20 tournaments and go straight into a Shield game, so it becomes more of a physical conversation and a risk-reward conversation.”For me, my opportunity is white-ball cricket for Australia so I sort of feel, at the moment with the World Cups coming up in the next year or 18 months, put all my eggs in the white-ball basket currently then when the opportunity to play red-ball cricket arises, if it makes sense, it makes sense.”

Marie Kelly's unbeaten 69 sets stage for Superchargers win

Northern Superchargers defeated Welsh Fire by 16 runs to ensure they prepared for this weekend’s Hundred playoffs in fine form.Marie Kelly’s unbeaten 69 set the stage for the home side’s 144 for 4 and the Fire struggled in pursuit after losing the key wickets of Tammy Beaumont and Hayley Matthews before they had scored.Laura Harris and Sophia Dunkley put up a strong fight, helping Fire to 128 for 8, but the Superchargers were relentless in their wicket-taking to give them an outside chance of progressing straight through to Sunday’s Women’s final. The Superchargers will need leaders Southern Brave to suffer a wide-margin defeat at Manchester Originals tomorrow to open the door for them to go straight to Lord’s, with a re-match Eliminator against Fire the most likely scenario at the Kia Oval on Saturday.Superchargers got off to an aggressive start as Kelly put on a wonderful performance to ensure a strong powerplay. She was supported by Phoebe Litchfield’s classy and innovative 40 off 26 balls, the Australian highlighting her hitting with a reverse slog over cover for six.The retiring Alex Hartley, Freya Davies, Dunkley and Claire Nicholas – who took a brilliant catch to dismiss Litchfield – all claimed a wicket apiece.Dunkley gave Fire their breakthrough wicket by taking a stunning catch off her own bowling when Jemimah Rodrigues tried to take on the legspinner but knocked the ball straight back.Although Fire had already made scores of 165, 144, 181 and 161 in the competition so far – those had all come from having batted first – and their task became more complicated when the Superchargers struck gold with two early wickets. Most notably the in-form Beaumont was caught by Kate Cross off Lucy Higham. In the next set Matthews was then caught by Litchfield off Cross.Welsh Fire gained ground as Australian batter Harris put on a striking performance with a steady 37, edging the visitors towards that 145 total needed to win. However, another breakthrough wicket was swiftly taken again as Cross bowled Harris and Dunkley followed not far behind, going for 29 runs off 22 balls, when Kelly held on to a catch off Alice Davidson-Richards.Sarah Ballinger also put in a strong performance as she took the wickets of Sarah Bryce and Alex Griffiths as the hosts ensured they would head to London with winning form.

Ex-Chelsea wonderkid retires at age of 28 just three years after Stamford Bridge exit as injuries put end to playing career

Musonda has now decided to put an end to a difficult career, announcing his decision himself on the Rising Ballers podcast as reported by Belgian outlet. Musonda had been without a club since departing Cypriot side Anorthosis last year.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Musonda was earmarked as a star in the making from a young age in his native Belgium, signing for Chelsea for €2.5million (£2.1m/$2.9m) as a 16-year-old in 2012. stated in their report that the attacking midfielder was formerly viewed as "the greatest Belgian talent" in his youth – but he would make just seven appearances for Chelsea, three in the Premier League, scoring one solitary League Cup goal for the club. Loans to Real Betis, Celtic and Vitesse Arnhem would follow, before his release from Stamford Bridge in 2022 and subsequent spells with Levante and Anorthosis. He struggled to find a true home away from Chelsea, hit by injuries across his career.

  • WHAT MUSONDA SAID

Musonda said on the Rising Ballers podcast: "I've got a big announcement today. It's not easy but it's something I've been thinking about for a long time. After reflecting on my experiences and who I am, I've realised I want to live with purpose to inspire and motivate others."

He added: "The exit [from Chelsea] killed me. It killed me mentally. It was the worst thing. I was obviously with the reserves at that time so the plan was to pick up with the reserves, get some training in and if there were a few games where I could fit in toward the back end of the season, that was the plan.

"Because I literally had just gotten better. I came back in December-January and was training with the reserves. Feeling amazing, happy to be back—obviously it was a long way for me to be fully fit, but just being able to train was amazing.

"The first team was doing really well. It was COVID, so the buildings were split and you wouldn’t really see the first team. Then toward the back end of the season in the car park I ran into Thomas Tuchel, the manager. It was my first time meeting him. He said, 'I’m looking forward to seeing you back and I said, 'Don’t worry, I’ll be back for pre-season'. Because in my mind, it was always pre-season and I’d be back with the first team and we’d see from there. So I came back for pre-season and that’s where things got tricky. That was the end of my time at Chelsea."

His proves that a career in football is fleeting and can be taken from you with injuries, but he will no doubt use his experiences to teach others as his life enters a new chapter.

Guest accepts Sussex gifts to equal Derbyshire catches record

Sam Conners, Zak Chappell share eight wickets to skittle visitors for 100

ECB Reporters Network21-Sep-2023

Brooke Guest had a day to remember as Derbyshire ran through Sussex in the LV=Insurance Division Two County Championship match at Derby. After the first two days were washed out by rain, Guest marked his 100th appearance for the county as a wicketkeeper by taking seven catches to equal the record number of dismissals in an innings for Derbyshire. Sam Conners and Zak Chappell both took four wickets to skittle Sussex for 100 and in reply, Derbyshire closed on 94 for 1 with Luis Reece unbeaten on 50.Only three players made double figures in a flimsy Sussex batting display after Derbyshire took full advantage of winning the toss. After several days under the covers, the pitch offered some assistance although it was an undistinguished performance by Sussex whose promotion hopes were slim at best even before this collapse. The tone was set in the fifth over by Ali Orr who aimed a big drive at Chappell without moving his feet and gave Guest his first victim.Tom Alsop, leading the side in place of the suspended Cheteshwar Pujara, was also guilty of a loose drive at Conners three overs later and when James Coles threw his bat at a wide ball from Anuj Dal, Sussex were 40 for 3.Tom Clark pulled a short ball from Pat Brown for six but when Dal found some late movement to have him caught behind, the innings went into freefall.Dan Ibrahim was drawn into playing at a ball that left him to give Guest his fifth catch, the first time a Derbyshire wicketkeeper had achieved the feat before lunch since Bernie Maher on Royal Wedding Day in July 1981.Oli Carter was cleaned up playing back to a full-length ball from Conners and after Chappell struck twice in successive overs, Sussex went into lunch on 77 for 8.Only three overs were bowled after the interval before heavy rain delayed the game until 4.30pm but the second ball after the restart, Wayne Madsen damaged a finger trying to take a catch at second slip and left the field in obvious distress.Former Derbyshire allrounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice took Sussex to three figures before Jaydev Unadkat pulled Conners to midwicket, and the innings ended in the next over. Hudson-Prentice skied a pull at Chappell to give Guest his seventh catch, which equalled the record set by former England great Bob Taylor in 1966 who then matched it in 1975 before Harvey Hosein achieved the feat in 2014.It was the first time this season a wicketkeeper has completed seven dismissals in an innings in first-class cricket and his assured glovework consigned Sussex to the lowest total by a visiting team at Derby for 25 years. The Sussex bowlers failed to match the consistent lines of Derbyshire’s attack which allowed Reece and Harry Came to add 65 in 18 overs before Came miscued a pull at Sean Hunt to midwicket. That brought Guest back out to the middle and at stumps he had helped Reece take Derbyshire to within six runs of Sussex’s meagre total.

Jack Edwards stars with the bat after six-wicket haul as New South Wales take charge

Queensland had threatened to fight back during the afternoon but Edwards and Hayden Kerr stood in their way

AAP05-Oct-2023Jack Edwards’ sparkling start to the summer continued, with the New South Wales allrounder adding a Sheffield Shield half-century to his six-wicket haul against Queensland.NSW went to stumps on day two of their clash with Queensland at 337 for 7 at the new Cricket Central at Sydney Olympic Park.Edwards was again the star of the day, with the 23-year-old hitting 87 and helping NSW to a 161-run lead.Related

After taking five wickets on a rain-affected day one, Edwards bowled Gurinder Sandhu early on Thursday morning to finish with career-best figures of 6 for 36.He then walked to the wicket with NSW having just lost 3 for 2, as Queensland threatened to keep them to a minor lead on the second afternoon. But with Edwards’ help, NSW took control. He hooked Mark Steketee for six, resulting in the ball needing to be changed after it was lost in long grass outside of the field. The right-hander then cover-drove Steketee’s next delivery for four, one of eight boundaries in his knock. Another six came when Edwards drove Sandhu over cover later in the day.At that point the rising star looked set for his second first-class century, before he was caught low in the slips trying to drive Michael Neser.Edwards’ runs come after he scored 92 in his first white-ball innings of the season last week in a NSW 50-over victory over Tasmania.Fellow allrounder Hayden Kerr went to stumps unbeaten on 65.Steketee had earlier taken the key wicket of Daniel Hughes for 59 when he swung one back in and drew the left-hander’s inside edge.Hughes had previously driven powerfully through the off-side, but was lucky to survive a tough chance at backward point off Neser on 37.Neser was among the pick of the bowlers for Queensland, claiming 3 for 75, and also took a superb catch in the gully to remove Ryan Hackney and end an opening stand of 89.

Uma provável escalação do Palmeiras é: Marcelo Lomba; Marcos Rocha, Luan (Kuscevic), Murilo e Piquerez; Naves (Luan), Atuesta e Gustavo Scarpa; Dudu, Breno Lopes e Rony.

Rafael Oliva (apresentador), Alexandre Guariglia e Julia Mazzarin (setoristas do clubes) e Leonardo Suzuki (convidado especial do Análise Verdão), comandam a conversa. Confira abaixo:
