    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Endrick is eager to make a positive impact on the field, having already raised eyebrows off it. After scoring for Brazil in an international friendly date with England at Wembley, the youngster was reported as saying that World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton was one of his idols.

  • WHAT COURTOIS SAID

New club colleague Courtois has told streaming star that the teenager may have seen his words twisted. The Belgian goalkeeper has said: “He told me that he had been misinterpreted, that what he wanted to refer to had been changed a bit, or something like that. I asked him about it one day and he told me that he hadn't given that answer, that later the video was changed as if he said that he was his idol.”

Edwards could land "prolific" Nunez replacement who terrorised Liverpool

What to do with a problem like Darwin Nunez? The Liverpool striker has evoked every emotion available to the Reds fanbase, wowing and winding up with equal measure as he catches the eye and misses the net.

The Uruguay international is a singular player, capable of sending a frisson of excitement and a frisson of fear through his own support with equal measure, blessed with influential prancing in the danger area and afflicted by inexcusable profligacy in front of goal.

The transfer window is around the corner, looming like a rumbling storm over yonder, and while Arne Slot will arrive at Anfield to head a new era at Liverpool, there is going to be plenty of change, players coming and going as Jurgen Klopp ends his Premier League tenure.

Darwin Nunez against Atalanta

Will Nunez be a part of this revamp? His long-term future is a point of discussion and FSG's CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, will have headed such talks at the transfer table.

Liverpool's summer transfer plans

According to mounting reports from Spanish sources, Nunez is firmly on the radar of Barcelona as Xavi's side search for Robert Lewandowski's successor, one of the finest goalscorers of his generation but entering his 36th year with the 2024/25 season.

Nunez signed for Liverpool for a club-record fee rising to £85m back in 2022 but has only scored 33 goals from 94 matches and has been rebuked in recent weeks for his part in Liverpool's late-season slump, ebbing from form and blanking across six successive top-flight matches.

The 24-year-old has fuelled the growing situation of his role in Slot's squad by deleting LFC-related imagery from his social media accounts, and it's no wonder that Liverpool appear to be searching for a new centre-forward.

One of the latest names to emerge belongs to Mohamed Amoura, who plays in Belgium for Union Saint-Gilloise and, according to a prior report from L'Equipe, has already been contacted by Liverpool bosses.

Amoura has a price tag of €20m (£17m) and would be a bit of a risk – but then Edwards and Liverpool often opt for the less-trodden path and could score a blinder with this one.

Darwin Nunez's season in numbers

Admittedly, Nunez has made gains during his second campaign at Liverpool, posting 18 goals and supplying 13 assists in all competitions, winning the Carabao Cup and playing a key part in the resurgence from the drab 2022/23 campaign.

If some of the more spiteful social media discourse is to be believed, Nunez is posturing as a Prem-level striker, but this is not the case. Nunez has his flaws but he has many strengths and has demonstrated improvement after his first campaign in England.

The £140k-per-week star has been far more effective creatively but he's still left plenty to be desired with his finishing, ranking among the top 18% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals but also ranking among the top 1% for shots taken per 90, as per FBref.

This metric corroborates his wastefulness, especially when collating that with data that shows a return of 20 goals across two Premier League campaigns that have also seen a staggering 47 big chances missed.

Darwin Nunez and Jurgen Klopp

If Barcelona present Liverpool with an attractive financial package it would be difficult to say no. Especially with fellow forwards Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo eager to cement starting berths under Slot and Amoura on the radar.

How Mohamed Amoura could fit in at Liverpool

Amoura has been hailed for his "incredibly prolific" first season in Belgium by talent scout Jacek Kulig and indeed has set the foundation for a prosperous career.

Across all competitions, the Algeria international has scored 23 goals and supplied seven assists, notably scoring and assisting as USG defeated Liverpool 2-1 in their final Europa League group-stage match.

Some performance. Amoura proved he can throw down with the best as his talismanic performance sank Liverpool and ensured his side cemented a third-place finish and advanced to the Europa Conference League knockout rounds.

What's more, he has scored 18 goals from 22 league matches this season while missing only three big chances – that is an extraordinary level of precision in striking moments.

The Algerian striker ranks among the top 1% of positional peers across divisions similar to the Jupiler Pro League for goals scored per 90, as per FBref – sure, that's wonderful stuff.

Mohamed Amoura in action for Union SG.

But he also ranks among the top 10% for assists, the top 7% for shot-creating actions, the top 1% for progressive carries, the top 4% for successful take-ons and the top 11% for tackles per 90.

He does the fundamentals perfectly, plies his trade with the clarity and composure of a natural-born star. Amoura is yet to try his hand in one of Europe's top-five leagues but there's a sense that he would be an excellent replacement for Nunez, offering similar snap and spark in his all-round play but, more importantly, offering a clinical touch that has evaded the Uruguayan.

But what of Nunez's stunning goalscoring season with Benfica, before joining Liverpool, you cry. True enough, the South American star scored 24 goals from 28 starts in Liga Portugal in 2021/22, but he still missed 14 big chances in less testing circumstances.

The rigours of the Premier League have struck many promising players down, but Amoura has an inborn goalscoring talent and he has the all-encompassing, dynamic skill set to complement.

He's not the household name that some might expect if Liverpool are to replace Nunez this summer, but trust in Edwards, trust in Liverpool's transfer diligence.

Darwin Nunez axed, £180m trio sign: Arne Slot's dream XI at Liverpool

Things could be looking rather different at Anfield come August.

By
Angus Sinclair

This might prove to be a shrewd signing, one that would be perfect for Slot's high-energy system. It might be an addition that ensures Liverpool enter a new era with a flourish.

Talks held: Wolves now eyeing up offer to sign £15m+ winger for O’Neil

Wolves are ready to spring into transfer action this summer as they eye up attacking reinforcements, it has been claimed.

Wolves and O'Neil eyeing new forwards

Gary O'Neil worked wonders with Wolves last season, guiding them well clear of the relegation zone and into Premier League midtable, but may need reinforcements to do so again.

After missing out on a striker in January, Chairman Jeff Shi has already confirmed that the club "are going to sign one or two number nines this summer", while they also could require another wide man, even if Pedro Neto remains at the club.

The left side of attack is a real concern, with Hwang Hee-Chan often asked to play out there but Neto, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha all having to deputise when required.

Wolves winger Pedro Neto

That problem could be solved this summer though.

Wolves eye up winger in £15m+ move

Now, it has emerged that Wolves are tracking Paraguayan winger Ramon Sosa as they look to add firepower to their attack this summer, with talks said to have gone well with the player's representatives.

Sosa, who was previously wanted by Chelsea and Strasbourg owners BlueCo, has been described in glowing terms by analyst Ben Mattinson on X.

Now, Wolves are among the sides interested in securing his services this summer, with his agent revealing in January that it was "inevitable" Sosa will leave Talleres this summer after failing to do so in the winter window.

“He is a player who is in clear sporting development, in his best moment. There is no rush on either side. It is inevitable that the player will be sold, now or in six months”, he explained at the turn of the year.

Meanwhile, Sosa has spoken about his desire to play in the Premier League. "There's a lot of talk about the Premier League and it's nice because it's a dream that I want to fulfil and I hope it comes true", he told the media.

But Talleres will not let him leave on the cheap, and are demanding a fee in the region of around €18m euros (£15m+) to part ways with their winger, a fee that would be a record sale for the Argentinian club.

Despite this, it is claimed by journalist Rudy Galetti that talks between Sosa's agent and Wolves have "been very positive" and that an offer arriving soon for the 24-year-old "cannot be excluded", though they may also face competition from Benfica for his services.

Ipswich could sign dream £21m Hutchinson alternative

Any anxiety or worry about Kieran McKenna's future at Portman Road has been well and truly put to bed, with the Ipswich Town manager's new contract now being signed.

That means the rumour mill will go into overdrive now not over potential managerial replacements for the former Manchester United face, but instead, in terms of incomings that could sign for Ipswich to help them during their maiden Premier League season.

Ipswich looking at "unique" Hutchinson alternative

The Tractor Boys will reportedly aim to press on and get a permanent deal done for their past sublime loanee Omari Hutchinson, who notched up 11 goals in all competitions last campaign during Ipswich's promotion heroics, but they could be tempted to steer in the direction of signing this attacker instead if such a move for the Chelsea youngster doesn't get off the ground.

A report from TEAMTalk at the end of last month indicated that Ipswich were preparing a swoop for Newcastle United gem Miguel Almiron, with a fee in the region of £21m needed to try and get this ambitious deal done.

How Almiron compares to Hutchinson

With Eddie Howe's men looking to sell on a number of players this off-season to get rid of the more seasoned professionals in the squad, it's no shock to see Almiron's name in and amongst those rumoured to be off, with the Paraguayan midfielder tallying up an impressive 209 appearances for the Toon since joining with much fanfare attached to his name in 2019.

The former club record buy failed to set the world alight this season for the Magpies, however, with his FBRef numbers compared to Hutchinson struggling in certain areas over the last year, alongside the fact the ex-Atalanta United man managed just three Premier League strikes in total.

Still, with his wealth of experience at a top-flight level no doubt coming in very handy for Ipswich, Almiron could prove to be a dream Hutchinson alternative.

His prowess in the division – even during a poor campaign in terms of output this season – resulted in in Howe calling him "unique" after a blistering display against Burnley saw him score the blinding strike below.

As much as Hutchinson did prove to be a very effective loan last season for McKenna's overachievers, the 20-year-old has only ever tasted Premier League action once for the Blues.

With the rest of the Ipswich ranks equally inexperienced with what it takes to cut your teeth making the step-up, having battled in the EFL the majority of their careers over playing in the bright lights of the Premier League, Almiron could be the experienced head they need in order to traverse the potentially choppy waters smoothly.

Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron.

177 of Almiron's 209 Newcastle appearances have fallen in the top flight, with the South American midfielder bagging 23 of his 30 Magpies strikes in the division.

It's not as if the winger has dramatically seen his powers diminish on Tyneside either, picking up 11 Premier League goals during the 2022/23 campaign.

That matched Hutchinson's numbers from the league below before the tricky 5 foot 9 Toon attacker ended up struggling this season in contrast with just three strikes registered.

Regardless, Ipswich wouldn't turn their noses up at the South American entering through the door this summer to add more nous and experience, with Hutchinson also another possible incoming to really bolster their squad ahead of their entry into the great unknown.

Liverpool player ratings vs Bournemouth: Darwin Nunez smacks in a worldie as lively Luis Diaz proves he's one of the best around

The 25-year-old forward has had to wait patiently for his chance under Arne Slot but came up big to help inspire a 3-0 win over the Cherries

Liverpool marched to the top of the Premier League table as two goals from Luis Diaz and one stunning curled effort from Darwin Nunez saw the Reds defeat Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday.

After surviving an early onslaught from the visitors that saw VAR chalk off an Antoine Semenyo goal for a marginal offside, the hosts finally came alive. It was Diaz who did the job of settling a nervous Anfield, incisively scoring two goals inside a couple of minutes.

Enter Nunez. Out of the picture up to now under Arne Slot, the Uruguayan finally got his chance from the start and boy did he take it. The 25-year-old emphatically making it 3-0 after 37 minutes as he curled an unstoppable shot into the far corner after combining well with Mohamed Salah.

With the damage done in the first half, Liverpool concentrated on preserving their clean sheet to ensure they bagged the three points that takes them to the summit, if only for 24 hours.

GOAL rates Liverpool's players from Anfield…

AFPGoalkeeper & Defence

Caoimhin Kelleher (8/10):

Big responsibility on his shoulders as he stepped in for the injured Alisson but he certainly didn't let the side down, making one big save to deny Semenyo when it was still 0-0 and then reacting quickly to prevent Alexander-Arnold scoring an own goal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10):

Given license to get forward in the first half especially and was at his creative best as he found Diaz for the second goal. Gave away possession 21 times – more than anyone else on the pitch – but that won't concern him too much.

Ibrahima Konate (7/10):

Turned into prime Andrea Pirlo as his lofted ball over the top set Diaz free for the opener. Bournemouth's attack gave him plenty to think about over the 90 but he'll take the clean sheet and assist.

Virgil van Dijk (7/10):

Imperious in the air and made a couple of important interceptions as Bournemouth tried to find a way back into the game. Impressively completed all 45 of his attempted passes.

Andrew Robertson (6/10):

Not at his swashbuckling attacking best but was given a tough assignment up against the lively Semenyo and knew he couldn't gallop forward at will. He'll be pleased with the win and clean sheet.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportMidfield

Ryan Gravenberch (6/10):

Struggled to contain Bournemouth's dangerous counter-attacks in the first half but improved in the second 45. Sloppy with his final pass at times but his driving runs forward consistently gave Liverpool forward momentum.

Alexis Mac Allister (7/10):

Spots passes that few others can see and it's that vision that saw him link up effectively with Salah on more than one occasion.

Dominik Szoboszlai (5/10):

Not his day. Blazed one presentable chance over the bar in the first half and the game bypassed him somewhat. Eventually taken off on the hour mark.

Getty Images SportAttack

Mohamed Salah (7/10):

It didn't quite happen for him in front of goal but he looked typically menacing whenever he received the ball on the right-hand side. Created a game-high six chances for his team-mates, including the assist for Nunez's belter.

Darwin Nunez (8/10):

Given the nod in attack – his first start of the season – and repaid his manager's faith with a stunning goal to put Liverpool 3-0 up. Withdrawn after 71 minutes but on this evidence, he'll get more chances to impress Slot.

Luis Diaz (9/10):

The man of the moment. Just when the nerves began to creep in around Anfield, Diaz showed supreme composure to net two quickfire goals and essentially put the game to bed. Denied his hat-trick as Slot decided to give him a rest after 71 minutes.

AFPSubs & Manager

Curtis Jones (6/10):

Added a calmness in possession when he came on after 60 minutes although probably should've scored when well-placed in the box.

Federico Chiesa (6/10):

Almost made an immediate impact with a half volley from distance that was saved by Kepa before he struck the post, only to be flagged for offside.

Cody Gakpo (6/10):

Put one on a plate for Jones only for the midfielder to fire wide via a deflection.

Arne Slot (8/10):

After the disappointment of losing at home to Nottingham Forest he'll be both relieved and delighted to follow it up with back-to-back wins. After a sloppy start his team got the job done, with his decision to bring in Nunez proving inspired.

CPL 2020: Shimron Hetmyer cuts loose after Keemo Paul bags four wickets in Warriors win

Paul’s clever variations of pace and length were too much for the Patriots’ batting

Peter Della Penna20-Aug-2020Keemo Paul’s four-wicket haul paired with another Shimron Hetmyer half-century ensured a facile three-wicket win for the Guyana Amazon Warriors over the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba.Paul reaped the rewards of a sterling team bowling display from the Warriors, who conceded just two boundaries off the final seven overs of the first innings as the Patriots could not find an answer for the steady diet of slower bouncers cooked up by Chris Green’s medium-pace unit. The low total of 127 for 8 reinforced the pre-match talking point of the Patriots decision to drop Joshua Da Silva after he top-scored with 41 not out at No. 3 on debut in their failed chase against the Barbados Tridents.Hetmyer arrived in the third over of the Warriors reply and peppered the leg-side boundary with the majority of his eight fours and three sixes, bringing up his fifty off 31 balls. With eight needed to win, the Warriors suffered a trio of hiccups that made the final margin far more flattering to the Patriots than it should have been. But Dominic Drakes bowled a wide and a no-ball on consecutive deliveries to calm any nerves before Romario Shepherd spanked the free hit through mid-on for a boundary to clinch the match with 18 balls to spare.Spinners take a bite out of Patriots top orderAfter an expensive display against the Trinbago Knight Riders a day earlier, Imran Tahir was on the money early for the Warriors. He struck with his first ball, teasing Chris Lynn into a skied slog to Green at mid-off at the start of the fourth over. Green got into the act with the ball two overs later, mixing up his pace to catch Evin Lewis off guard by spearing in a wider delivery to negate a shuffle down the pitch as Nicholas Pooran completed an athletic stumping, making it 53 for 2 with two balls left in the Powerplay.Paul unmasks the short ballPaul, the medium pace allrounder, helped to further shift momentum into the Warriors’ favour starting with his first wicket in the seventh over. CPL debutant Nick Kelly, who replaced Da Silva in the Patriots line-up, couldn’t handle a short ball from Paul and sliced a cut to Hetmyer at backward point. Another short delivery going down the leg side resulted in a feathered edge for Nicholas Pooran to claim off the bat of Denesh Ramdin.Following another scalp by Tahir – trapping Jahmar Hamilton on the crease with a googly – Paul mixed up his pace with a slower bouncer followed by a fuller pace one to result in a spooned pull to mid-on by Rayad Emrit. Paul then showed his speed in the field by charging in from deep midwicket to deny Ben Dunk a second run with a relay to Pooran for a run out. He rounded off his day in the field claiming Drakes with a short ball yanked flat to Shepherd at deep square leg. During his flurry of wickets, Paul made sure to pull a black protective mask out of his pocket to wrap around his mouth and ears, practicing his “social distancing” celebration.Hetmyer’s leg-side demolitionThe 23-year-old has an alternative interpretation of playing in the V. For Hetmyer, it means spraying everything within arms reach between midwicket and mid-on. Regardless of where the Patriots bowled, Hetmyer was determined to drag everything he could to the leg side, and to great effect.Hetmyer got his eye in against Emrit in the fifth over, tonking him for a six bookended by two fours over the leg side to bring the required run rate under a run-a-ball before the end of the Powerplay. A six driven over long-on against Ish Sodhi’s legspin brought up his half-century. A wet ball was changed by the umpires with one ball to go in the 15th over, but it had little impact on Hetmyer who promptly dispatched the first delivery with it bowled by Sheldon Cottrell into the terrace over deep square leg.His innings finally concluded when he tried to clear long-on for a match-ending six but his toe-end shot couldn’t beat Dunk on the rope to give Drakes a wicket. Warriors made it across the line nonetheless four legal deliveries later.

Tara Norris claims four as Southern Vipers quell Western Storm

Vipers 261 for 7 (Dean 60*) beat Storm 239 (Knight 67, Luff 60, Norris 4-45) by 22 runs Tara Norris played a starring role, claiming 4 for 45 in eight overs as Southern Vipers staged a brilliant fightback to beat arch rivals Western Storm by 22 runs in a high-calibre Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy South Group encounter at the Bristol County Ground.Put into bat, Vipers raised a competitive 261 for 7 from 50 overs thanks to half centuries from Georgia Adams, Danni Wyatt and Charlotte Dean. Heather Knight and Sophie Luff threatened to make light work of that when scoring 67 and 60 respectively in a hundred partnership for the second wicket, only for Storm’s chase to hit the rocks in the face of an inspired spell from Norris, who was ably supported by fellow seamers Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier and Paige Scholfield.Handily-placed on 149 for 1 in the 26th over, the hosts suffered a dramatic collapse, losing seven wickets for 31 runs in 11 overs and, despite the best efforts of tailenders Claire Nicholas and Lauren Parfitt, were bowled out for 239 inside 48 overs. Victorious in their opening two fixtures, Vipers are top of the group and, with four matches to play, have put themselves in with a decent chance of making the final at Edgbaston on September 27.Storm appeared to be cruising to victory when Knight and Luff staged an increasingly authoritative partnership of 130 in 22 overs, the second wicket pair both registering half centuries to put their rivals firmly on the back foot. When Knight was caught behind off a Bouchier no ball on 23 and then dropped by Scholfield at mid-wicket off the same bowler on 52, it looked like being Storm’s day.But Scholfield atoned by catching Luff at mid-on off the bowling of Adams, an interjection that proved a defining moment in the game, sparking an unexpected collapse in which the hosts slipped from 149-1 to 180-8. Left-arm seamer Norris was at the heart of the turnaround in fortunes, claiming four wickets in a devastating 19-ball burst, including the prized scalp of Knight, who was bowled for 67 via a bottom edge, at which point Storm were required to score a further 102 from 20 overs with their batting inspiration back in the changing room. Having already had Georgia Hennessy caught at the wicket, Norris again struck twice in quick succession to remove Katie George and Alex Griffiths, both held by the ubiquitous Scholfield.Bell then bowled Nat Wraith to finish with 2 for 41 from nine overs and Scholfield accounted for Emma Corney, after which Nicholas and Parfitt did their best to make a game of it, staging a spirited stand of 47 in eight overs for the ninth wicket. But Adams, who finished with 3 for 23, claimed the wickets of Nicholas and Niamh Holland, leaving Parfitt unbeaten on 33.Having posted a match-winning opening stand of 111 in Saturday’s seven-wicket triumph over Sunriders, Adams and Wyatt picked up where they left off to provide Vipers with the perfect start, staging an assured alliance of 105 in 19.4 overs on a surface that held few demons for batsmen. Taking advantage of the fielding restrictions and some wayward bowling, these two proved adept at rotating the strike, running hard between the wickets and scoring primarily behind square to plunder 90 runs from the first 15 overs.England one-day star Wyatt established herself as the senior partner, taking few risks in cutting and pulling her way to a 54-ball half century which included half a dozen boundaries. Demonstrating sound shot selection, Adams realised the same landmark from 70 balls as runs came easily against a Storm attack that lacked express pace and penetration.Quickly realising that it was difficult to hit down the ground and that taking the pace off the ball would generate additional bounce, Luff called upon her triumvirate of off spinners in an attempt to change the dynamic, a strategy that paid dividends when Wyatt uncharacteristically gave Fi Morris the charge and saw her middle stump knocked back. Attempting to make the most of the platform afforded by the openers, Bouchier went aerial. only to play one shot too many, loft a flighted delivery from Knight straight to mid-off and depart for 16 in the 27th over. When Adams was called through for an ill-advised single by Dean off the bowling of Knight and comprehensively run out for 55 by Luff’s smart pick-up-and-throw from backward point, Vipers had lost two wickets in 10 balls and, at 149-3, were in danger of losing crucial mid-innings momentum. Scholfield succumbed to Nicholas for nine, top-edging a sweep to Parfitt at short fine leg, and Emily Windsor was caught behind for 14 off an arm ball from Knight, who extracted extra bounce to finish with 2-36 from 10 overs to help Storm wrest back a degree of control.Ella McCaughan attempted to open up the off side and was bowled by a ball that nipped back at her from George, while Carla Rudd was lured onto the front foot by Hennessy and fell prey to a smart stumping from the exemplary Wraith as Storm’s death bowlers continued to turn the screw. Determined to make amends for running out her captain, Dean remained unperturbed by the fall of wickets at the other end, putting fielders under pressure with clever placement and hard running in a stabilising innings of 60 not out from 70 balls, with four boundaries, to haul the visitors to respectability.

Somerset took 21 points to Glamorgan’s three.Overcast conditions and a pitch that was still responsive to quality pace bowling conspired against the visitors as the Overton twins set about finishing their opponents off.The first wicket fell after 15 minutes when Graham Wagg chased a short, wide ball from Jamie Overton and edged a catch to wicketkeeper Steve Davies. What little hope Glamorgan had left disappeared when the same bowler, operating from the River End, produced a fine delivery to end Cooke’s stubborn resistance. At 153 for 7, Ruaidhri Smith walked out with a runner for the second time in the game, determined to contribute despite the hamstring injury he suffered while bowling in Somerset’s first innings. But he could manage only three before getting a leading edge to Josh Davey, who had replaced Craig Overton, and lobbing a simple catch to Roelof van der Merwe at mid-wicket.Jamie Overton, whose decision to reject a new Somerset contract and sign for Surrey was announced before the game, produced some jaffas in a hugely impressive spell of 7.2 overs, which yielded 3 for 16. He claimed his fifth wicket of the innings with a perfect swinging yorker, which defeated Kieran Bull’s attempt to clamp down on the ball and sent his off stump flying.Overton’s celebrations suggested he had been determined to sign off his Somerset career in style before moving to the Kia Oval, and it was job done in that respect. He even had a hand, literally, is finishing the match, diving to his left to hold a slip chance offered by Michael Hogan off Jack Brooks.

Rangers hit gold on free signing whose value’s soared 250% this season

Glasgow Rangers failed to end their run of seasons without winning the Scottish Premiership title as they finished second in the division this term.

They have now gone three years without a league trophy to lift and they may look back on their recruitment last summer as not being good enough to help them oust their rivals in the race for domestic silverware.

Michael Beale made a number of signings in an attempt to bolster his squad but did not have the best of luck, as two of his additions left the club on loan by January – Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes.

However, there were some success stories to come out of the window. The signing of Dujon Sterling has, so far, been a fantastic piece of business by the Scottish giants, as his value has soared this season.

Dujon Sterling's impressive first season at Ibrox

The versatile star arrived on a free transfer from Premier League giants Chelsea last summer and arrived as a natural right-back, having made more appearances in that role than any other in his career.

With James Tavernier being the Rangers captain, Sterling may have joined knowing that there was the potential for him to spend a lot of time on the bench behind the skipper in the rotation.

However, the English whiz ended the 2023/24 campaign with 1,780 minutes under his belt across 36 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues.

As you can see in the table above, Sterling made 11 starts in the Premiership, in 24 outings in total, and his versatility was key to his success on the pitch.

The ex-Stoke City loanee, who scored one goal in three Europa League outings, also started all four of his games against Celtic in the Old Firm, which speaks to how much trust the manager has in him.

He played in six different positions for Rangers, including left-back, right-back, right midfield, left midfield, defensive midfield, and right wing, across all competitions, which allowed him to earn appearances and starts in several roles when needed.

Dujon Sterling's soaring market value

Beale struck gold by bringing the 24-year-old star to Ibrox as he has proven himself to be an incredibly useful operator for Philippe Clement, who has trusted him to play in a multitude of positions within his system.

At the time of his free transfer to Glasgow, after his contract with Chelsea expired, FootballTransfers estimated that the young defender's market value was €800k (£680k).

His emergence as a versatile and key performer for the Light Blues under the Belgian head coach, since Beale's departure, has seen his value soar this season.

At the time of writing (30/05/2024), FootballTransfers places Sterling's xTV (Expected Transfer Value) at €2.8m (£2.4m), which means that his value has soared by 250% from the €800k it was sat at last summer, before his move to Ibrox.

Clement can forget all about Sima with Rangers swoop for £3.5m star

The Light Blues are reportedly keen on a deal to sign the “superb” winger this summer.

Therefore, Rangers have hit the jackpot with the 24-year-old, who still has plenty of time left to develop and improve, as his value has soared and he has been a valuable figure on the pitch for Clement.

Hopefully, the club can land more players like Sterling and fewer like Lammers and Cifuentes when they come to make signings this summer.
