>!TUDO IGUAL!

E A ETAPA FINAL?

Man City have signed a "magician" who looks like another David Silva

Manchester City have dominated the Premier League over the past 14 years. Even before Pep Guardiola’s historic appointment, the club had risen to the fore, winning the 2011/12 and 2013/14 titles.

But the 54-year-old has taken a good thing and made it immortal. Man City’s dynasty is among the greatest in modern European history.

Now, he’s tasked with fashioning the next phase in the project, with the Citizens having struggled through 2024/25 and ending up empty-handed on the trophy front, save for the Community Shield on the opening day of the year.

A transitional period this may be, but Manchester City are masters of the market. Many clubs have financial strength, but not the wherewithal and expertise to make their ambition count.

So often, City hit the jackpot, and they certainly did with David Silva. If Guardiola’s final chapter is to be an illustrious one, he will hope to craft a new version of the iconic Spaniard.

David Silva's Man City record

15 years ago, in 2010, Manchester City signed Silva from Valencia for a £24m fee. It was second time lucky for England’s new superpower after missing out on the nifty playmaker in 2008.

Despite an impressive start to life in his homeland, Silva arrived in England, regularly benched across the opening weeks of his first season, before finding his feet across the second half of the year.

Humble beginnings led to illustrious success, the kind which few players ever come close to scraping. Silva won so many trophies, but his intelligence, style and silkiness on the ball were among the best the Premier League has seen.

Guardiola, certainly, has overseen few better, calling his countryman “one of the best ever” back in 2019.

He played 436 matches. He scored 77 goals. He supplied 136 assists. Silva won the full gamut in England, and though he had departed before City finally struck gold in the Champions League, their triumph was pillared by the Spaniard’s tireless work across many seasons in Manchester.

With 97 assists in the Premier League, Silva is seventh in the all-time standings. And with Kevin De Bruyne having vacated his throne this summer, it was imperative that a new playmaking force was signed.

So often, Man City strike gold in the transfer market. Might they have done so with their new version of Silva?

Man City's new David Silva

Silva’s dynamism and expertise on the ball helped shift City toward their ball-playing style of play. A glittering career in England was lifted upon Guardiola’s appointment; they were, in many ways, a match made in heaven.

Now, Pep may have landed his next version in Rayan Cherki, who plays in a more advanced and often wider berth than the 2010 World Cup champion is remembered by, but Silva operated across many positions, especially during the earlier phase of his career.

Signed from Lyon in an initial £30.5m deal this summer, French creator Cherki found fame in his homeland, considered among the most exciting talents in the country from an early age and enjoying a prolific final year with Les Gones, posting 13 goals and 21 assists across all competitions.

Like Silva, the “ballon d’Or level talent”, as he has been called by data analyst Ben Mattinson, is an elite close-control operator, with awareness and flair of a similar calibre

Moreover, the 22-year-old is positionally versatile, much like a young Silva, and if he works on his composure and work rate across the deeper phases of play, could be fashioned into a maestro like the former City skipper.

He does, after all, rank among the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and the top 2% for progressive passes per 90, data via FBref, emphasising his potential suitability for the role.

Thigh injuries have limited the Frenchman’s match action to just three matches this season, but he did score off the bench on City’s opening-day thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers, then playing almost an hour against Tottenham Hotspur, creating a big chance and winning five duels.

The fact that the fleet-footed talent has featured 185 times for Lyon and had a meeting with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot this summer, discussing a potential move to Merseyside, emphasises the calibre of player Guardiola has got his hands on.

And given Pep’s track record at elevating stars to elite status, there’s little question Cherki is in the perfect place to take that huge stride forward, having already been recognised by journalist Julien Laurens for being “a magician” when on the ball.

This special star was welcomed to help shape this next era at Manchester City, and it’s perhaps exciting that the club are finding their footing at this early-season stage without Cherki firing on all cylinders, or indeed playing at all.

Man City know they haven’t signed the finished article in Cherki, but a player who has the capacity to become one of the best in the world.

When Man City signed a 24-year-old Silva from Valencia in 2010, they gambled on a talented maestro with potential untapped.

As was so often the case during those early Sheikh Mansour days, the Etihad side got bang for their buck – and much, much more.

Barcelona back in for Victor Osimhen? Galatasaray star identified as possible Robert Lewandowski replacement with Hansi Flick's men considering ambitious move

Barcelona have identified Victor Osimhen as a potential successor to the ageing Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to leave the reigning La Liga champions at the end of the season. Osimhen joined Galatasaray permanently from Napoli ahead of the 2025-26 season in a record-breaking move, but he could return to one of Europe's big five leagues next season if Barca are serious about signing him.

Osimhen back on Barcelona's radar

According to a report from Catalan outlet , Barcelona have set their sights on Osimhen and are considering signing the former Napoli frontman next summer. The reigning La Liga champions have made acquiring a new striker one of their top priorities while planning in advance for the 2026-27 season and beyond, in light of the possibility that the ongoing season will be Lewandowski's last in the Blaugrana colours.

Osimhen's potential move to Barcelona will mark his return to one of Europe's most elite clubs, having spent the 2024-25 season on loan in the Turkish Super Lig at Galatasaray. After scoring 37 goals in 41 matches across all competitions, the Turkish champions fought tooth and nail to make the striker's signing permanent over the summer.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportAll signs point towards Lewandowski leaving next summer

Barcelona will be in dire need of rejuvenating their frontline ahead of the 2026-27 season, owing to recent reports which claim that Barcelona are unwilling to renew Lewandowski's deal. Having turned 37 years old in August, the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich star has shown a dramatic decline in both his performances as well as his ability to cope with the demands of the intensity required to compete at the highest level in Europe.

The Catalans made a surprise swoop in the summer of 2022 by signing Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. It would be naive to suggest that his spell in Catalunya has been underwhelming. He won the Pichichi in his debut campaign, scoring 23 goals in La Liga and 33 goals in all competitions to end Barcelona's four-year wait for a league title. He reached the milestone of a century of goals for Barcelona in the final game of the 2024-25 season, taking just 147 games to achieve the feat. Even though he finished the previous season with 42 goals in 52 games, his contract was already extended in February until June 30, 2026, with reports claiming that the Polish international wished to retire at Barca.

Things, however, have changed quite a lot since the end of last season. Lewandowski is no more a shoo-in in head coach Hansi Flick's starting XI, with the 37-year-old happy with a reduced role. His struggles with injuries, too, have played a big factor in keeping him out of the lineup. He has already missed four games this season, in addition to the five he missed towards the end of last season. Nevertheless, there is optimism for Flick and Barca after returning to team training earlier this week.

Rumours suggest that a move to Saudi Arabia next season could be on the cards. Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski's agent, has denied any such reports. "Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona expires in the summer of 2026, and no decisions have been made yet," he said. "We'll have to wait and see what happens in the coming days. There's nothing official regarding negotiations with Saudi Arabian teams. There are no offers at this time."

Signing Osimhen will be an arduous task for Barcelona

Pulling off Osimhen's transfer will test Barcelona's financial capacity to the hilt. The Nigerian international currently earns €15 million (£13m/$17.5m) per annual, in addition €1m as loyalty bonus and €5m in image rights compensation. He is, therefore, the highest-paid player in Super Lig history. Galatasaray broke the bank to land Osimhen's signature, splurging a league-record €75m (£65m/$88m) to sign him on a four-year contract.

It appears unlikely that a player with such a hefty price tag will depart without specific conditions being met – chief among them, the player’s own desire for a new challenge. Likewise, Galatasaray are not expected to part ways with him for anything less than a substantial offer.

Any potential pursuit of Osimhen will ultimately depend on the club’s financial standing, with the hierarchy fully aware that investing in a proven goal scorer represents a major financial commitment. The club will also be mindful of not getting a big-money signing unless they are fully confident of avoiding registration drama, which is contingent on the club meeting the 1:1 rule of La Liga. As things stand, the Catalan giants are not there yet.

This context helps explain why sporting director Deco has publicly played down the prospect of signing a new No.9, unless, of course, an exceptional market opportunity presents itself. “Perhaps you can do without one. This isn’t the time to talk about signings. Ferran can play as a 9,” said Deco. “PSG won the Champions League without a penalty-area player. Talking about a ‘9’ is a bit of a mistake, although there are good players.”

GettyBarca keeping tabs on other strikers, too

The Catalan giants have been linked with a number of strikers over the past few months. While it remains to be seen if they can get either of these signings over the line, speculation suggests that the likes of Harry Kane, Etta Eyong, Dusan Vlahovic, Erling Haaland, Serhou Guirassy and Julian Alvarez are on Barca's shortlist for next season.

Ferguson thinks he knows Rangers stars who are an Ibrox problem for Martin

Former Glasgow Rangers manager Barry Ferguson has hinted at knowing who the problematic players are for Russell Martin at Ibrox currently, as he battles to save his job.

A must-win game for Russell Martin at Rangers

The Gers trade Scottish Premiership commitments for Scottish League Cup action on Saturday evening, with Hibernian making the trip to Ibrox for a quarter-final clash.

For Martin, it feels like a must-win game, with the 39-year-old under enormous pressure after a disastrous start to his time in charge of Rangers, not yet winning a league game.

Recent reports have suggested that the Englishman is safe as manager for now, but it surely can’t take many more bad results before a big decision is made by the board.

Potential replacements are already being mentioned, including Davide Ancelotti, who was one of the front-runners to come in during the summer, but Martin has spoken positively ahead of the Hibs match.

“We have the chance to be in the semi-final, and a step forward towards silverware. I want to see a team that plays with the togetherness and intensity I see at training.

“Very rarely do you arrive at a club when there is not a problem. At every club we have been at, there are tough moments, but the potential is huge for the group if we work through the difficult moments together.”

Ferguson makes Rangers dressing room claim

Writing for The Daily Record [via The Glasgow Times], Ferguson hinted at knowing who could be the problem players at Rangers for Martin, but didn’t want to go as far as naming names.

There is arguably a feeling that Martin has lost members of the dressing room, and when that happens, the writing can often be on the wall for a manager.

The Nicolas Raskin situation has stood out in that respect, with the midfielder being frozen out by the Gers boss until now, and it could be that he is one of the players Ferguson is referring to. Then again, he was a key man when the Scot was in charge, and is now back in the squad.

£25m star at 49ers club snubbed Elland Road move after late Leeds approach

Leeds United made a late approach to sign an “unbelievable” midfielder who the 49ers Enterprises know well, but he turned down a move to Elland Road.

Evans defends Leeds' transfer window

Leeds’ managing director, Robbie Evans, has made it clear he was happy with the business that got done during the summer , despite admitting that deadline day was a “bad day at the end of a good window”.

Evans said: “When we set out back in May, we had certain targets as far as key positions, key profiles, you know, estimates of the maximum available spend to get towards. And we checked all those boxes. So we brought in all the key players. Got them done early, all the key additions for Daniel,”

However, it is difficult to ignore the fact that deadline day was a distinct failure, as the Whites failed to get a deal for Fulham’s Harry Wilson over the line, with it being widely reported the Cottagers pulled the plug on the move right at the end of the window.

Farke could make move for "relentless" £20m+ CF who's "perfect for Leeds"

The Whites launching a move for a striker is “one to keep an eye on”, with Daniel Farke personally keen.

ByDominic Lund Sep 10, 2025

Wilson was being targeted to bolster Daniel Farke’s wide options, but it has since emerged that bringing in another central midfielder was on the to-do list in the latter stages of the summer, despite already signing Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff.

According to a report from The Boot Room, Leeds made a late approach to sign Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin, a club also owned by the 49ers Enterprises, but he turned down a move to Elland Road, with the 24-year-old keen to fight for his future at Ibrox.

The Whites made initial contact over a deal, but the move did not advance, and they ultimately didn’t manage to bring in another central midfielder, which could be an issue in the coming weeks, given the injury issues Farke is being forced to deal with.

Missing out on "unbelievable" Raskin could be blow for Leeds

The Belgian was left out of the Rangers squad for their recent 0-0 draw against Celtic, amid doubts over his future, which was a blow for Russell Martin, given that the maestro has previously caught the eye against the Gers’ bitter rivals.

Alex McLeish lauded the Rangers star for an “unbelievable” performance against the Hoops last season, and he has impressed considerably from a defensive point of view over the course of the past year.

As such, the five-time Belgium international being uninterested in a move to Leeds is disappointing, especially given Farke’s ongoing injury problems.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds reignite their interest in Raskin, but it could be a relatively costly operation if they do, with the Scottish side thought to be demanding at least £25m.

Their own Rice: Spurs begin talks to force through "world-class" signing

Despite making a 100% start to life in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur manager, Thomas Frank still wants to add to his squad to bolster the options at his disposal.

The Dane has already splashed £85m on new additions to date, with Mohammed Kudus the most-expensive signing – costing £55m from West Ham United.

The big-money addition of the Ghanaian has already proved worthwhile, notching two assists in the opening-day triumph over Burnley in North London.

Joao Palhinha has already been added to the ranks, bolstering the options at the heart of the side – already impressing just like Kudus – scoring in the victory over Manchester City at the Etihad.

However, other new arrivals are set to be added to the middle of Frank’s side to provide needed talent and depth, with the September 1st transfer deadline rapidly approaching.

Spurs’ hunt for a new midfielder this summer

In an attempt to bolster the midfield department, Spurs have been preparing a move for Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss – with the Moroccan set to leave the Foxes before the summer deadline.

It appeared as though he would be set for a move to Crystal Palace, but his transfer to the Eagles has collapsed in recent days – opening the door to a switch to North London.

However, another name has been thrown into the mix as of late, with Marseille star Adrien Rabiot a player in their sights, according to reports in France.

It states that the Lilywhites have entered preliminary talks with the player’s representatives over a move to North London after he was told he’s free to leave the Ligue 1 outfit after a changing room bust-up.

It’s also previously been reported that the Frenchman could be available for as little as €20m (£15m), with AC Milan and Aston Villa also interested in the former Juventus star’s signature.

Why Spurs’ latest target would be Frank’s answer to Rice

Spurs fans would’ve raised eyebrows when local rivals Arsenal forked out a reported £105m to land midfielder Declan Rice back in the summer of 2023.

However, as hard as it is for the Lilywhites faithful to admit, he’s been a superb addition for the Gunners, notching 16 goals and 20 assists within his 105 outings at the Emirates.

The 26-year-old has been triumphant in six of his 17 appearances against the Lilywhites, often providing a real presence in the middle of the park in such meetings.

His box-to-box nature allows him to have a real impact on proceedings at both ends of the pitch – but if Frank was to land his own version of the Englishman, it would likely cost a pretty penny.

However, a bargain deal for Rabiot could allow the club to land their own version of Rice, with the Frenchman possessing various similar qualities to the former West Ham United star.

The Marseille star was labelled as a similar player to the Gunners star by FBref based on their figures from last season, managing to outperform him in numerous key areas in the process.

Rabiot, who’s been labelled “world-class” by former French star David Trezeguet, posted more combined goals and assists, offering the Lilywhites an added goalscoring threat if he replicates such numbers.

He also managed to impress in finding other teammates, notching a higher pass completion rate, with more of his efforts per 90 being into the final third – offering the likes of Kudus added opportunities in front of goal.

Without the ball, Rabiot has been just as dominant, achieving a higher tackle success rate, whilst also making more interceptions per 90 – arguably being a more all-round box-to-box option than Arsenal star, Rice.

Given the stats produced by the 30-year-old in the 2024/25 campaign, the rumoured £15m transfer fee would be an absolute bargain – possessing the needed Champions League experience for Frank’s side ahead of their European adventure.

If he can replicate such levels in England’s top-flight, the Frenchman would be a superb signing and one that can hand the manager his answer to Rice – and a bargain one at that.

Porém, pouco antes do intervalo, Barros apareceu e diminuiu a vantagem do Cruzmaltino.

No segundo tempo, Galarza assustou e empatou.

DEFENDE RAFAEL E VASCO DOMINA!

Incomodou a defesa tricolor, pressionou bastante.

Galazar, que criou a primeira oportunidade do jogo, desta vez conseguiu, Com o pé esquerdo, finalizou e empatou o placar no estádio do Morumbi.

E MAIS UMA VEZ ‘MADE IN COTIA’

England Lions suffer heavy defeat in one-off tour match

Flintoff’s first tour as Lions coach ends in 284-run loss in Cape Town

ESPNcricinfo staff12-Dec-2024CSA Invitational XI 289 (Senokwane 79, Lawes 4-38, Akhter 3-51) and 256 (Hermann 131) beat England Lions 154 and 107 by 284 runsAndrew Flintoff’s first tour as England Lions’ head coach ended in a thumping defeat in their one-off contest against a CSA Invitational XI in Cape Town, with the visitors losing all 20 of their wickets in a total of 63 overs across two innings, as they were bowled out for scores of 154 and 107.The four-day fixture at Western Province Cricket Club concluded a three-week tour of South Africa, with the focus for the Lions’ 19-man party having been on what the ECB described as “individualised and high-quality training”.However, the batters in particular were found wanting against a South African attack in which Ruan de Swardt, who played two Tests against New Zealand in February, was the only bowler with prior international experience. After being asked to bowl first, the Lions dismissed their opponents for 289 early on the second day, with Tom Lawes (4 for 38) and Zaman Akhter (3 for 51) proving the stand-out bowlers. The same two players, however, were back in action with the bat all too soon, compiling an eighth-wicket stand of 78 after the Lions had stumbled to 72 for 7 in their first innings.Codi Yusuf claimed three of those wickets, including Freddie McCann for a duck with his first delivery, while Rocky Flintoff – the coach’s 16-year-old son, and a late addition to the tour – was bowled third-ball for 4 by Yusuf’s fellow new-ball bowler, Matthew Boast.Captain Dan Mousley, who recently made his England white-ball debut in the Caribbean, resisted for a while with 24, before Lawes (48 from 38) and Zaman (32 from 39) carried the score towards respectability. However, the Lions then lost their final three wickets for four runs to concede a first-innings deficit of 135.Jordan Hermann, CSA’s opening batter, then extended that advantage with a second-innings 131. Jean du Plessis (36) and Corbin Bosch (33) were the only other scorers of note in a total of 256.The Lions, who had arranged to rotate their squad throughout the game, used eight bowlers in total. These included another recent England debutant, John Turner, who went wicketless, while Derbyshire’s Pat Brown – a T20I international in 2019 – was the pick, claiming figures of 4 for 44 in 12 overs.Set a nominal target of 392, the Lions’ batting shortcomings were swiftly exposed once more. Yusuf and de Swardt claimed two wickets apiece as the visitors collapsed to 39 for 5, and this time it was Farhan Ahmed, with 24 from 29 at No.7 who held up CSA for a short while. Tsepo Ndwandwa closed out the contest with 3 for 23 in 6.5 overs.

Romano: Man Utd approach agent of "wonderful" £100m rising star after Sesko

Manchester United have now made contact with the agents of a “wonderful” £100m rising star, who could join after RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Sesko set for Man Utd medical

Man United now look set to win the race for Sesko, despite rival interest from Newcastle United, and Romano has revealed that a deal is edging closer to completion.

In fact, the Slovenia international is now “ready to fly” to England to complete a move to Old Trafford, having struck an agreement on personal terms, with United trying to get the deal over the line as soon as possible.

Should the Red Devils complete a move for Sesko, it will be a huge relief for Ruben Amorim, having chased a new centre-forward throughout the summer, but it is not the only position in which the manager is looking to strengthen.

According to a new update from Romano on X, Man United are also keen to get a new defensive midfielder through the door, having made an approach to the agents of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.

Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba

After wrapping up the deal for Sesko, United plan to try and bring in a new midfielder, but a deal for Baleba could be difficult, given that he is valued very highly by his current employers.

In fact, transfer expert Graeme Bailey believes the Seagulls could hold out for £100m, adding: “I am told that Brighton are not contemplating a Baleba sale this summer and are not encouraging it either. They are saying he is not for sale.”

"Wonderful" Baleba could take Man Utd's midfield to next level

Man United already have Manuel Ugarte at their disposal in defensive midfield, but the 24-year-old received widespread criticism for his debut season at Old Trafford, and the more experienced Casemiro hasn’t always set the world alight either.

In fact, former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher infamously suggested the Brazilian’s time at the top level is over.

Consequently, it is no surprise that Amorim is looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder this summer, and the Brighton star clearly has what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford, having been lauded by Alan Shearer for a fantastic all-round performance against Manchester City last season.

Shearer said: “He was absolutely wonderful and he just changed the tempo of the game. He changed the performance of Brighton. Not only on the front foot but he did his bit defensively as well and he got wired in which no one really did in the first half.”

With Baleba also placing in the 90th percentile for interceptions per 90 over the past year, and the 85th percentile for blocks, he is evidently a very talented defensive midfielder, but the £100m asking price could be prohibitive.
