FA Cups, Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues were all lifted by the centre-back during his time at Chelsea, but it seems as if he won’t be picking up much silverware in the near future after moving to Crystal Palace… no offence.

However, he has still managed to win something at Selhurst Park.

Cahill has been named the club’s Player of the Month, and the defender seemed very pleased with the accolade.

The veteran centre-back said that it feels great to have been named Player of the Month.

He went on to say that he feels at home at the club, and he thanked a number of groups for making him feel that way.

This message just goes to show how well he has fit in at Selhurst Park after arriving this summer, and if his good form continues, Palace will have a top centre-back on their hands with the experience to help those around him too.

كما ذكرت تقارير صحفية أمس أن جيرارد مدرب رينجرز يتواجد على رادار توتنهام لخلافة مورينيو (لمطالعة التفاصيل من هنا).

ولكن شبكة “givemesport” الإنجليزية نفت ذلك، حيث أشارت إلى أن جيرارد لا يعد اسمًا بارزًا على طاولة توتنهام في الوقت الحالي.

وأوضحت أن هناك مرشحين آخرين لدى توتنهام لخلافة مورينيو، أبرزهم بريندان رودجرز مدرب ليستر سيتي وجوليان ناجيلسمان مدرب لايبزيج.

وأفادت أن بريندان رودجرز يُعد هو الاسم الأبرز لتدريب توتنهام حيث يُعد هدفًا للنادي اللندني منذ سنوات عديدة.

Aston Villa slumped to another Premier League game without a victory as Burnley twice hit back to earn a point at Villa Park.

The game had its controversial moments, not for the first time this season, as VAR toyed with the heartstrings of the home faithful.

It was Anwar El Ghazi who opened the scoring for Villa, meeting Frederic Guilbert’s cross just after half an hour before former West Brom man Jay Rodriguez levelled things up with a powerful header in the second half.

John McGinn edged Villa in front after having a previous effort chalked off, but that lead lasted a matter of two minutes as Chris Wood equalised with another headed attempt.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the 70th minute and the home team lacking in attacking flair, recording just two shots on target, manager Dean Smith brought on summer signing Trezeguet to spark a change, and it paid off inside ten minutes.

The winger did well to create some space to put in a cross for McGinn to fire home as Villa took the lead on the 79th minute.

During Trezeguet’s 20 minutes, he assisted a goal, put in three crosses and had a further six passes in the final third of the pitch, per WhoScored.

In addition to that, he was fouled three times, thus giving a chance to stick the ball into the box onto the head of either of their towering centre-backs, who are both above 6 foot 4.

It also suggests that the Egyptian was a significant threat in the final third and had Smith introduced him earlier, the game might have gone differently.

He recorded the same number of crosses that El Ghazi managed in double the time and two more than captain Jack Grealish on the other wing, via WhoScored.

If Trezeguet was on the pitch before the 70th-minute mark, he could have had a greater impact on the match as he would have been given more time to show his creative exploits.

It’s something that clearly had some sort of influence as he assisted the goal that regained his side the lead, albeit not for long.

وترى “ميرور” أن آرسنال قد يفضل رحيل النني في الصيف القادم، حيث أنها الفرصة الأخيرة للنادي الإنجليزي لتحقيق ربح مالي جراء بيعه.

Out of sight, and possibly out of mind as well?

Having arrived on loan from Benfica in the summer, Alfa Semedo has made a bit of a rocky start to life in England, and it got even rockier a few weeks ago.

The midfielder currently finds himself injured having picked up a knock in the build-up to the Arsenal game and has not been seen since.

The question is though; will he be in contention once he finds his way back to fitness?

On the chalkboard

With Nottingham Forest alternating between a 4-3-3 formation and a 4-2-3-1 depending on how far up the pitch they want to play Joao Carvalho, the only way he is likely to be a long term success at the City Ground is as a partner for the likes of Samba Sow as the defensive midfielder in the 4-2-3-1.

He is unlikely to dislodge Sow from his place as the team’s primary defensive midfielder, as he has more or less cemented his place in front of that back four.

With an average of 4.2 tackles and 2.1 interceptions per game, the best of all the Forest squad, his place is secure.

A lot of that is going to depend on the form of Sow’s current partner Ben Watson.

The 34-year-old has been holding down the fort in his absence and has done an impressive job, so impressive that he finds himself nominated for the club’s Player of the Month award, and being second too. But will he be able to continue this form when we come back from the international break?

Having played the majority of his career as a defensive midfielder, it wouldn’t make sense for him to change and be pushed further up the field to partner someone like Joao Carvalho as his passing stats leave something to be desired.

Averaging 15.9 passes per game and a completion rate of just 66.1% he’s not exactly the kind of person you’d want creating plays.

If you look back in his past career, he was a much more effective at the role than he has been at Forest, completing north of 80% of his passes in rare appearances for Benfica and Espanyol.

His numbers have just seen a decrease since he’s moved to England, perhaps as a result of adjusting to new surroundings. So there is a good player in there, it just needs to be coaxed out of him.

This season has been far from straightforward for Arsenal.

The Gunners find themselves third in the Premier League and with a 100% record in the Europa League. However, not everyone is happy due to some of Unai Emery’s tactical decisions.

Indeed, club legends Robin van Persie and Ian Wright criticised the manager’s defensive-minded approach to the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United, per Optus Sport (via the Metro).

As Arsenal prepare to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday night, we look at two players who could be crucial to delivering victory up in Yorkshire.

Mesut Ozil

The manager was heavily criticised and rightly so for his approach to the United game.

Playing with three defensive-minded midfielders, Emery showed little intention of attacking and instead picked a side that was quite happy to play for a point at Old Trafford.

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit told French television, per the Metro: “Emery is sending negative signals by picking three defensive midfielders against a team there for the taking.”

With that in mind, the clash with Chris Wilder’s men looks like the perfect game for Mesut Ozil, who has the attributes required to unpick the lock of the opposition defence and maintain the Gunners’ good run.

The German set a Premier League record for the fastest player to reach 50 assists – which he achieved in 141 games for Arsenal. A player that has the vision the German possesses could be vital.

Bukayo Saka

On the basis that Alexandre Lacazette isn’t available for Monday, it’s imperative that the young English winger features. As witnessed against Manchester United where he grabbed an assist and completed two dribbles, Saka proved that he is perfectly capable of holding his own on the biggest stage.

As Sheffield United typically go with a 3-5-2 formation using wing backs, it is a perfect opportunity for Saka to penetrate the Blades’ defensive line. He will likely go up against George Baldock, who proved last time out that he can be beaten with the ball.

Against Liverpool before the international break, Baldock only completed one tackle, two fouls and was dribbled past on one occasion during the 90 minutes.

With his unsuccessful touches per game at an average of 1.4, any sort of high press could give Baldock all sorts of problems too. Saka’s got the youthful energy for that, as well as being able to create havoc once he’s got the ball back.
