The Red Devils have touched down in Australia for their first two pre-season games.

Manchester United are set to play Perth Glory and then Leeds United in the opening two fixtures before jetting off to Singapore, where they will meet Inter Milan. The last three games of the tour will be held in Shanghai, Oslo and Cardiff as United face Tottenham Hotspur, Kristiansund and AC Milan respectively to finish things off.

The club has recently dropped an official video where the squad’s first walk through Perth was filmed and fans were quick to notice what seemed like a slight bust-up between Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.

But, perhaps in a bid to immediately put that story to bed, Lingard shared an Instagram snap with the Frenchman as they enjoyed their first training ahead of the Perth Glory game.

Whether there really was some friction between the two Red Devils or not remains to be seen, but it seems that Lingard has at least attempted to address the situation on social media as pre-season gets underway.

وأتم: “بناء عليه؛ تم عزل محمد مرجان بشكل مؤقت، وسوف تتم إعادة المسحة الطبية له خلال الـ72 ساعة القادمة للتأكيد على سلامته”.

[ad_pod ]According to Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham could part with €27m (£24.2m) plus Toby Alderweireld in order to land Italian wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the north London outfit are seemingly keen to land the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who scored six goals last season including two strikes in the Champions League.

Zaniolo is a 6 foot 3 powerhouse of a player who also possesses real guile and composure, shown by one goal that he scored last term which highlighted his immense talent.

The report states that Spurs are willing to include Alderweireld in the deal, which seems crazy at first given the fact that the Belgium international is a key player.

Before Tanguy Ndombele, Spurs fans haven’t been able to vlog about a transfer since January 2018! Judging by the video below, it’s been worth the wait…

However, the Champions League finalists may be wary of Alderweireld’s £25m release clause being triggered this summer, so by offering him in a player-plus-cash deal, they would at least be getting something extra in return in Zaniolo.

Player-plus-cash deal is a genius move

If Spurs pull this deal off, it would arguably be the smartest transfer move this summer. It would be a real shrewd move, and would display an extremely sustainable method of business.

Alderweireld, as good as he is, will be 31 next March and his market value and potentially his form too will drop with age.

To swap a player nearing his sell-by date for a gem of a footballer who could become one of the stars of the next generation seems like a no-brainer for Tottenham, and it really should be just that.

Spurs have ample cover at centre-back in the shape of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth, whilst Eric Dier can also play there, so losing Alderweireld wouldn’t hurt too much – the arrival of Zaniolo in exchange would also soften the blow significantly.

They would be getting a player a whole decade younger for a relative snip in the modern market, whilst only losing a player who they will have to replace in a few years anyway.

After a disappointing end to the season saw them miss out on Champions League football for the third season in a row, the Gunners have had a rather underwhelming summer. Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli remains the club’s only signing of the window and it has become a source of parody that the club with the billionaire owner have a reported £40m budget to spend. Or half a Wilfried Zaha, in other words.

But as tensions rise off the pitch – captain Laurent Koscielny’s farcical situation adding further fuel to the fire – there remains a hope that Kroenke can salvage something amongst all the mess.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that the Gunners’ head honchos Unai Emery, Raul Sanllehi, Vinai Venkatesham and Edu will all be involved in the pre-season tour of the USA, and will make use of the opportunity to speak to Kroenke about potentially investing some of his own money into the club.

The north London side have seen bids for Kieran Tierney and William Saliba stall in recent days amidst claims that the “structure” of payment in both deals was not quite up to scratch. Deals for the duo would comfortably take up most of the budget and leave little room for Emery to strengthen other areas of the squad.

So as the club embark on a whirlwind trip around the States, the next couple of weeks seem pivotal. If the Gunners hierarchy can convince Kroenke to finally step in and give the club a much-needed cash injection, then the sense of optimism both amongst the fans and the backroom staff will be rediscovered. Failure to do so will see this festering situation become almost untenable and have potentially devastating results on the pitch.

‘Silent Stan’s’ legacy at the club is in tatters; but it still may not have reached the point of no return. If he heeds the advice of all those calling on him to “care”, then the American may still be able to drag Arsenal out from their slumber. But at the moment, that still remains a massive ‘if’.

According to Portuguese tabloid Correio da Manha, Wolves are just one of the clubs chasing Lille ace Rafael Leao this summer as manager Nuno Espirito Santo looks to strengthen his side ahead of their upcoming European journey.

What’s the word?

Wolves are yet to make any substantial moves in the transfer market having only made two loan deals permanent – with the £30m club-record signing of Raul Jimenez and Leander Dedoncker staying at Molineux.

The club finished seventh in the league last season, their highest-ever finish in the Premier League era which also meant they qualified for the Europa League for the first time in nearly 40 years.

As they look to embark on another historic season, additions are required even if it is purely for squad depth reasons. The reported link to Leao would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Less reliance on Wolves’ only striker

Wolves were too reliant on Jimenez last season with him being their only senior out-and-out striking option aside from Leo Bonatini, who joined Nottingham Forest on loan in January.

Their number nine bagged 13 goals and seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances. Versatile forward Diogo Jota often partnered him up top in a 3-5-2 formation even though he has been a left-sided winger most of his career – he added nine goals and five assists himself meaning the duo formed a formidable partnership up top.

But what would Santo do if either of them were unlucky enough to pick up an injury or a suspension? They will face even more of a hectic schedule now they are in a European competition – their Europa League campaign actually begins this week, less than three weeks before the start of the Premier League season.

Wolves can do little wrong in adding another highly-rated striker with Leao a potential option. He was once dubbed the ‘Portuguese Mbappe’ and has also been regarded as the best youth prospect to leave the Sporting CP academy in their history by his former mentor Tiago Fernandes – which is impressive considering Cristiano Ronaldo came from those very ranks.

The 20-year-old starred for Lille last season, though you wouldn’t have realised as Nicolas Pepe took most of the spotlight. Leao scored eight goals in just 16 starts, whilst laying on a trio of assists too, so the young star is clearly capable of lessening the burden on Jimenez’s shoulders.

Leao should fit right in at the west Midlands club seeing as you could easily be forgiven for thinking it’s a Primeira Liga side at times with the array of Portuguese talent at their disposal. The Portugal Under-21 international would become the eighth player from Spain’s neighbour to pull on the gold and black shirt making the transition to English football all that smoother.

He’s also just been signed up as one of agent Jorge Mendes’ new clients which can only be good news for fans at Molineux as he also manages their boss Santo – as well as the club’s owners having a share in his agency firm. The 53-year-old has reportedly influenced a number of signings at the club in the past.

According to a report from Italian publication La Lazio Siamo Noi, Leicester are interested in landing defender Bastos from Lazio before the window shuts.

What’s the word?

Leicester’s hand could well be forced before the transfer market closes if Harry Maguire does indeed close out a move to Manchester United.

The Foxes have done some impressive work in landing both Ayoze Perez and Youri Tielemans but they could still be faced with a potential major exit.

In preparing for that eventuality, a central defender may have to be signed. Lewis Dunk was touted with a £45m move earlier this month but they’re now being linked with a defender in Serie A.

Per La Lazio Siamo Noi, centre-back Bastos is attracting the interest of both Watford and Leicester. The report claims he could be available for between €15m-€13m (£13.7m-£11.9m).

Cunning ploy from Rodgers

At the age of 28, adding someone like Bastos, who only started 11 times last term, might seem somewhat questionable.

However, it could be perfect for what Leicester need at the moment and it might also enable the Foxes to put in place an intriguing strategy with their defenders.

If Maguire does leave then a replacement will be needed but landing the Lazio man could be the ideal stop-gap signing.

Leicester have some top young defenders coming through at the moment but whether they’re ready to be thrust into Premier League action remains to be seen.

Filip Benkovic has come back from a loan spell at Celtic but admitted himself he’s a magnet to injuries whilst Caglar Soyuncu seems to be out of favour after playing just two times in 2018/19.

Therefore, bringing in an experienced defender like Bastos could help to plug the gap for a year.

As a result, it can allow both Benkovic and Soyuncu to develop themselves away from the limelight before a potential route into the first team next season.

After all, the Angolan defender will come with the qualities necessary to fit in at Leicester.

He’s a good passer, achieving a success rate of 86% last term whilst making 1.2 tackles across the minimal game time he was afforded too.

This would be smart work if Leicester get a deal over the line.
